Those bear don’t care about snow, when its time to come out of their dens, snow depth isn’t much of a factor! If the chipmunk squirrels are out, so are the bears!
I’m working on the north slope in Alaska right now, it was -30 this morning and there are grizzlies out and about for a week now...
Hold the fluff, pass the gun……Years ago, while hunting sheep in the Brooks Range my partner was packing a magnum can of bear spray with him, I just shook my head! One morning we were awakened to the sound of jumbo arctic ground squirrel chewing on my tent. I opened the fly, and the squirrel was...
I was 14,667 in line, after 8.5 hours of waiting I got the tags I wanted, Panhandle A and reg deer unit 6! Weren’t many Panhandle elk tags left or unit 6 deer when I got mine! thinking it will go all draw for non-residents soon! Who knows.
I have called in a lot of black bears in southeast Alaska with a deer bleat call in the fall, wasn't trying to call them in, was calling for bucks, but the bear like coming in too! once and awhile a wolf too!
Spring 2005, flew in with Warren Johnson Bear Lake Lodge, he dropped us off at Winding creek west side of Tugamak Range on the Bering sea side, first day of hunting passed and two 9 footer and a bear that was pushing 10 foot at 80 yds in head of Nipper Creek all on video too, looking back I...
You're going into some of the what could be the ugliest weather in Alaska, last thing I would do is go cheap on a tent! Its not worth the stress of being in high winds and side ways rain and some times snow for days, hoping your tent doesn't fail! I ways bring my hillberg Nallo 2 GT for back up...
Been there, done that hunt, also Cold Bay three times for bear! Hilleberg Saitaris is what I would have!
My bombshelter got trashed last spring in Cold Bay from high winds, not that they are a bad tent, there a great tent, We couldn't set it up in a very good area to be protected from high...
Good plan, I know that county, nice bears there! I grew up in Northern Idaho, kind of the same terrain. Glass the open parks and old logging clear cuts, glass till dark!. good luck!
Not sure on what kind of terrain you're hunting? I assume you will be hunting on foot, hike in camping? I would not spit up, I wouldn't be running all around sinking up the place! You say its a high bear density, so you shouldn't have any trouble each getting your bear! Glass till dark too!
Depends on there you hunt bears…LOL
I grew up hunting bears in northern Idaho but live in Alaska and have hunted bears here for 30 years, so will give you my lessons learned from Alaska bear hunting, mostly spring hunts! These lessons are for hunting big smart old boars, which I call “fighting...
