I have had a couple different spotting scopes (first a low-end Nikon then a Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85). I use the Vortex from my house daily (I have great views of the mountains a couple miles away from my living room), but I've never really been able to see the advantage when I'm actually...
Sitting water is boring...but in my view is MUCH more mentally challenging than spot and stalk because it requires such patience and disciplined focus However, as stated above, unless you have very stalking-conducive terrain you'll just have to hope to get lucky. I tried for 10 years trying to...
I think 7 miles is pushing the limit of what you could actually pack out if you were in really good shape or had some buddies that wanted to stop hunting for a few days. I agree with Bales--I don't know what to say if 7 miles doesn't do the trick. I don't have much time due to job constraints...
I've had archery neck shots twice--neither was intentional (but I was younger and more risky). The first was a 4x6 mulie where I pulled the shot but should have waited for a better angle anyways; the second was an the decent antelope buck, he jumped the string. I hit the jugular on the antelope...
I'm not sure why you think that's too long to be right. The days per harvest on average (for all weapons) runs about 3.2. Area 79 is right in line with this number at 3.0. So it at looks like it's at least as good as average. Also, unless you have prescouted and setup a blind over water, I don't...
You could look into the NR Special draw too--it opens up a few more areas with 100% draw odds. Pretty much as long as you're not in the mountains, there will be antelope (even there you'll find them in foothills sometimes).
I've been hunting antelope in WY for almost 30 years--zero snakes so far. During the summer I've seen snakes, but haven't come across any during my hunts in southcentral, southeast, and northeast WY.
I did exactly what you are doing with my 338 Win Mag Remington 700 XCR II--I replaced the factory stock with a B&C Alaskan II. It substantially improved my groups over the factory stock, using the same ammo for both.
We used one on a 2017 caribou hunt north of the Brooks Range. It definitely kept the bear off our meat--he would circle the meat cache but not cross the fence. But he spent the bulk of his day crusing the valley eating berries, so we wasn't super hungry. Even still, I would bring one again to...
In my opinion, the real issue is not bullet drift but either the rifle and/or you actually getting blown around. Nothing wrong with a windage card, but I've hunted and killed a few dozen goats in south central, southeast, and northeast Wyoming and have never used one. I had one trip where I was...
When I've hunted on public land and tried to set up a blind in the dark morning, the goats knew something wasn't right and were pretty skittish around it. I could get them in to 80-100 yards to squawk at it, but not closer. (I ended up laying in a ditch for 10 hours near where they were coming...
