    Taking a knife to Canada?

I’m from BC and we travel back and forth over the border frequently. I never leave the house without a folder. I’ve been stopped multiple times and when asked about weapons I’ll usually say I have a pocket knife. Sometimes they’ll ask to see it sometimes not. Every time they could care less and...

    Thinking about hunting solo....

I seem to do much better hunting solo. As mentioned get an inreach or zoleo and get out there. If you haven’t done a lot of solo camping/hiking etc plan for a shorter hunt at first. Your own head will be your worst enemy.

    Water filtration setups?

Sawyer mini for me. Use it as both an inline and gravity filter. It’s hooked up as an inline filter on a 3L bag that sits in the pack and I can fill as I go during the day. (Usually don’t completely fill it as there’s lots of water where we hunt) Between the filter and the bite valve is a quick...

HELP! Inreach to Zoleo not working…

had issues between a buddy, he had inreach, and my zoleo. If I remember right he was trying to get me via his email messages or something like that. In the end I had to send him a direct message from my zoleo phone number to his inreach. Once the chat was established we just use that same chat...

    Zoleo Vs Garmin

Possibly referring to elkstabbers recent post on the inreach failures? It sounds like a lot of it was due to not having the software updated but he also felt like the zoleo was a bit more rugged. Search garmin inreach failure or something like that.

    What size Western Mountaineering Bager?

FWIW I’m 5’11 and 170lbs. I have the Versalite in 6’ length and find it perfect. As others have mentioned I think an extra 6” of bag would rub a lot on the tent but I guess it depends on what kind of shelter you’re in. You should be fine with the MF. I recently woke up to find a two liter...

    Go to sleeping pad?

Another vote for the thermarest xtherm. Love that mattress.

I'm looking for sleeping pads for 3rd season Colorado hunt for son and I Best bang for the buck on a budget. We both have 0 degree Down bags ?

From what I was able to gather, Klymit has recently had to drop the R value on a lot of their pads once a standardization method came in. The pads themselves are not as warm as some of the competition. However the R values they claim seem to be based on the construction of the pad and the way...

    Chicken Leg Boot Gaiters

Another vote for kuiu. I’ve got chicken legs as well and the katana gaiters fit great for me.

I need a serious sleeping bag

I went down this same rabbit hole last year and ended up going with Western Mountaineering as well. They hold up to the hype. I originally planned to get the Kodiak but due to supply issues I had a hard time finding one. Found a good deal on a Versalite and so glad I pulled the trigger on it...

One item you wish you carried sooner?

    Best Dog Packs...?

I really like the Onetigris vests. They are MOLLE rigged so I can switch out the bags or add extra bags depending on the length of the hike. They have really great handles front and back which works great to grab a hold of the dog or to lift them over things if need be. And the cut doesn’t seem...

    Lighting for backpacking camp

Yup I just throw something on to diffuse the headlamp. Toss the lamp into a gamebag and hang from inside the tent, a tree limb etc.

    Help me catch this rat!

you need to exclude the deck or you’ll continue to have this issue. dig a trench roughly 1’ deep and 1’ wide around the deck. Screw 1/2” hardware cloth to the bottom edge of the deck, have it hang down into the trench and then form an L outwards to cover the base of the trench. Fill back in...

Clothing System For BC Coastal Mountains In November

Plan for very wet conditions. by end of November the alpine areas will be seeing a fair bit of snow and the deer will likely have pushed down. You will go from misty rain, to light showers, to heavy downpours, to torrential rain, mixed in with wet snow, sleet and then a few more showers for...
