I'm getting ready for an Idaho Elk hunt in the Frank Church, and this is going to be my first adventure in the backpack hunting arena. I know that I am about to encounter some of the most beautiful country I've seen to date, and maybe I'll be blessed enough to add to that some trophy photos by...
Loving our new Toyota 4runner. Not sure if that's above the midsize you're looking for though. Has to be a top contender for most reliable vehicle out there. Resale is ridiculously good, but definitely cost more like TxxAgg mentioned.
Yeah, I know enough from on here that storage compressed is a bad idea. I was just thinking more pack in/pack out with puffy pants/jacket. Appreciate the feedback!
Simple question, can you over compress down jackets/pants/vest? I bought a couple ultralite S2S compression sacks and with them you can really compress and get all the air pockets out. Can you go overboard and actually damage the down though?
Have an upcoming elk hunt, Oct 1-7, heading out of McCall. Original plan was to drive from SW Michigan so transportation wasn't an issue. However, the trip is a solo travel, and 2-3 days each way plus fuel and other expenses, flying is actually becoming an option. Flights are down, working...
Putting together a sleep system for some upcoming hunts, which will all be first for me regarding out of state hunts and backpacking in vs. hotels and houses. 2 different hunts that come up first will be mid/end Sept. mountain goat hunt on Kodiak island as well as Oct 1-7 Idaho elk hunt in the...
So I am in the process of getting myself in shape for some western trips. I live in West Michigan, so mountain training is a no go. However, I do have a decent ravine system around my property that I can do side hilling and up/downs with 100' or so elevation in spots. The kicker is that it is...
Seems like an odd question I'm sure. However, I just ordered my first set of puffy pants (at a great discount) as I'm starting to get more gear for Kodiak Island goat hunt next year. The pants are UA storm ridge reaper pants and always struggle with sizing as I fall between L and XL almost...
Zero effect on them. I don't leave gut piles in the field due to coyotes, not because of other deer. Otherwise, like everyone else, they walk right next to it.
I shopped for price once, still can't look at the mount and not shake my head. What a disappointment that turned out for what should have been a great mount. The memory is still there for me, but still. I'm doing more euro's now for my whitetails since I have several shoulder/wall pedestals...
I have never looked into this until now, but am intrigued. Do you drain the juice from the jar before using the meat? Use some of it or all of it? Does it make a difference on the type of meal you're preparing?
