I love my 300 Win, so definitely biased. 300WM and 300WSM perform very similarly ballistically.
Here are my reasons for preferring the 300WM:
- the availability of factory ammo
- the variety of different bullets available in factory loads
- I just got back from hunting in Africa, and my PH as...
This is a good explanation. I would add that if you have the ability and time to fletch your own arrows you absolutely want to match your offset or helical to the natural spin of your bow. If your bow spins the arrow to the left and your vanes want to spin your arrow to the right, the arrow will...
I am just not doing as much fly fishing as I hoped. Selling the following:
- Echo Streamer X 790-4 Fly Rod (9' - 7wt - 4pc) - $390
- Airflo Streamer Max Short Fly Line -WF-7-S 240 grains on Echo Bravo LT 6/7 Reel - $210
Everything is like new. Would prefer to sell the setup for $550 TYD
There are many great hunting bullets out there. It is easy to develop a favorite after a few successes in the field, and for that reason I only load Barnes TTSX for hunting.
IMO, the first step in working up a load should focus on ES, and trying a dozen or so combinations with 180 grain TTSX...
I would go with the Leupold BX-4s. If you keep hunting out west you will likely eventually upgrade the binos. I started out with cheap nikons, and eventually ended up with Swaros. The nice thing is that binos will hold a fair amount of their value. It is easier to justify incremental...
Looks like you have some great gear. If money were no object, I would consider going with a synthetic sleeping bag, and a synthetic puffy. If down gets wet, it is next to worthless. Kifaru makes great bags. The Kifaru Lost Park Parka is my single favorite piece of gear - I don't leave home...
Great replies. Just to be clear, I am absolutely going to help my friend get started. I was more interested in everyone's thoughts on the influx of new hunters. Thanks.
I went skiing for a week with a old friend of mine. I have known him for 30 years, and new that he was anti-gun and anti-hunting. He is a good friend, and so I was planning to avoid the topic of hunting for a week (tough for me, but I was ready to make the sacrifice in the spirit of continued...
It would seem to that ES is the first step. If they didn’t nail the velocity, what confidence can you have in the seating depth consistency, shoulder bump, etc.
If this guy is an honest businessman, he should want make it right. I would send him the ammo, and ask him how he wants to make this...
It is the rare individual who will actually overtrain. Our subconscious is pretty good at talking us out of working out way before overtraining is an issue.
An outfitter that I hunted with in MT who guides 60 to 70 bow hunters a year said that almost everyone is stronger on day 5. The point...
Thanks for all of the help. I opted for the Nightforce NX8 4-32x50 with MOAR reticle. Probably way more scope than I need.

I was hoping to get some help deciding on a rifle scope for my 243 Chassis Rifle. I am an experience shooter / reloader, but new to Long Range shooting. I want to spend enough, so I don't have to upgrade in a year. My main hunting application for this rifle will be Prairie Dogs. I have been...
