6.5 PRC vs 6.5 CM? I currently use a 7 PRC, but looking for a lighter weight, lighter recoiling rifle dedicated for deer hunting.

6mm Creedmoor is a hell of a deer round. All will get the job done. Since you have the 7 PRC, the 6.5 PRC is kind of close with the 6.5 Creedmoor not too far off. The 6mm Creedmoor is a nice spread in your rifle stable. For deer I would say 600 and closer it is perfect. You have the 7...

    Colorado wolves released today

I am going to point out to the people of Colorado. How dangerous it will be if a dog that had distemper got around those wolves. Wolves are not immune to distemper and it lives in the soil for a long time. It woud be terrible if an animal that had distemper or the soil from its kennel was to...

    Are City Firefighters Overpaid?

It all depends on location. Some are paid a lot, some barely get by. It really is not a standard across all cities. I find the stance that to ask the question is some how wrong, just ignorant. We should question every government employees pay on a regular basis. We are the ones paying it...

Off Season to Become Better Hunter

I go to the gym at least 3 times a week. I also go to the rifle range once a month at least. I try to go more but it doesn't always happen. Working out is a huge bonus. Remember 90 percent of elk are killed by the same 10 percent. The fact you are asking about getting better is a great...

    The Season '23

62 yards quartering away. You can see the broke off exit. Packed out alone, not my favorite thing ever.

Caliber to pair with .300 RUM

You said 600 but more likely 400. Run the numbers with best performing grain bullet in all of them and you have your answer. The 270 and the 6.5 PRC are close but the PRC wins. I have a pair of rifles. One in 300 RUM and the other in 6.5 PRC. It is a joy to shoot.

    Ultralight Rear Bag

Your kill kit stuffed into a good bag works well. I keep spare blades, tiny bone saw and backup headlamp in one game bag. Then wrap all the others around it. Take the ball and stuff it into a good bag and you have a shooting bag that you needed to pack anyway.

    Good buck?

I am no expert at all. I judge by fork above the ear. The higher the better. He is above the ear. I would pop him.

Firearm nihilism - does everything actually just suck?

Lots of people get the gear thinking it will result in the outcome. I will get a mountain rifle so I can go on a hunt in the mountains. Why because it is easier than getting in shape to do that hunt. You are the most important tool. Take care of that tool. Shoot, workout, train to hunt...

Firearm nihilism - does everything actually just suck?

They are only as good as you are. Stop buying guns and buy ammo. Spend some serious range time. I mean go put a few hundred rounds over a month through your hunting rifle. I know people say, " I shoot". People are full of crap. I reload and pound out some ammo. Stop spending money on...

    Hornady ELD-X Ammo issues

I filled a management tag last year on a cow elk with 300 RUM shooting 212 ELDX. I shot her at 40 yards, so way to much gun for that. Anyway, no bone hit I put it 2 rib behind the leg. Bullet entered 2 inches and exploded. Chest cavity was jelly, she fell in 2 feet. No exit, I found the...

Suppressor advice...one suppressor to rule them all? (at least for now)

I picked up an Silencerco Omega 36M. You can find the muzzle brake adapters it uses to mount on line pretty cheap. I slapped one on every rifle and the can just floats around. It is nice having a quick detachment for every rifle and breaks set up on them already. 36 cal and down. You can...

    Late season cold gear

I picked up for stand huntin Northern East Washington on the Idaho Canadian Border a suit from Cabelas. I was worried about it. Bibs and Jacket, it was called the stand hunter. OMG, it can be 5 degrees, I will wear t shirt, underwear and socks. Walk 50 yards to the stand with only the bibs...

    Deer Camp Dinner Suggestions

First. When camping now I tend to put together things I can just one pot and leave for hours. Corned beef with cabbage and carrots just in a cooker going. Another thing to think of if you have power is picking up at good will a intant pot. You can grab one now for 20 buck usually there...

    6.5 vs .308 shorty suppressed ?

I went with the 308 for mine. I did this because I run a can and made up subsonics for under 100 yards. I wanted to shove as much weight down range at 1000 fps to keep it subsonic. Plus going short barrel for regular rounds the 308 should burn more efficiently because of the larger bore to...
