shoulder mount with the gutless method

On the last two sheep I worked on we started at the belly and just didn't cut through the viscera so its still "gutless". Ring the hide near the last rib and peel the front off like a sock. The legs I ring at the knee, then cut the scapula loose and pull it out like skinning a rabbit. Once the...

    Packraft & pack protection

I don't packraft currently but were I to start I would summarily ignore everything Luke and Becca say. The only have a couple thousand miles of packrafting experience spending at least 1/2 of every summer month in the back country. I pitty them for doing everything wrong for so long. Gotta give...

    Pack size for spiking out

I take my 7500+ CI pack for all my hunts since I never know what I will stuff in there for the hike out. It's just a shade over 7 lbs compresses to the point I forget it's there when packing light. It can fit a deer, sheep or small black bear and knock a sizable dent in a moose or elk. I can't...

    Shooting a nanny

I harvested a nanny on my one goat hunt and will hold out for a billy next go round. That said I have never wished for the bullet back and I still admire the rug hanging in my reloading room and think back to that epic trip often.

    Camp shoes

I just tie the laces so that I can slip them on and off. I had zero issues since the fabric they are made of is pretty thin and they didn't feel loose. They go on about like socks.

    Lost pack

I've been bit by it before. Worse was the time I lost my quad going to take a dump. Worse than that was the time I lost my truck chasing rabbits. I am extra cautious walking away from anything in the woods now.

    Kryptek is Chinese for Camo?

Been a while since I checked but wild things gear used to offer great pricing for military and first responders. I wear a set of their last generation event rain pants. I really liked their event jacket but left it unsecured in my truck and someone decided they needed it more than I did. I am...

    Camp shoes

I had boot issues and ended up wearing my merrel vapors for probably 1/2 of my Brooks range sheep hunt. I loved them! Surprisingly comfortable even on rocks. I actually harvested my first sheep this year wearing them. They literally saved my hunt.

Trekking poles.... How many use them?

Required equipment in the mountains for this guy. Me + 15lbs of boots/clothing along with 115lbs of gear/meat tips the scales over 400Lbs on the hoof. Without trekking poles I would have left my knees on the hill years ago. My Black Diamond contour elliptical poles have been going strong since 2007.

    Sleeping Bag Research Process

I'm 6'5" and 270 lbs so if I can fit in a long WM Versalite I would bet that that vast majority of the Rockslide members would find it plenty roomy. That said I don't have issues with claustrophobia like some might. I just hike till I am exhausted then crash like a rock the moment I get it...

Field Dressing/Quartering in Below Zero Weather?

Never done a deer but have butchered a moose at below zero temps. I used nitrile gloves and was fine. Dead animals are warm, especially something as big as a moose.

    Shooting a animal head on?

I like to put small bullet holes in the cape so I get less grief over the hatchet job I do skinning the face.

    kuiu bino harness

I have been using my AK guide creations chest pack since 2009 and love it. I loaned it to the FIL this fall and he liked it so much that my wife had me order him one for his birthday.
