    Hiker style boot

I love Salomon shoes and hiking boots and I wear them everyday for work and on casual hikes, Going hunting is entirely different. If there's even heavy dew I know my feet will be wet in Salomons. I have worn the quest 4Ds and various other models. For hunting a have tried them all. My feet...

Do you take a backup rifle on hunts?

If I'm going out of state hunting, yes. Deer hunting near home, no. If I'm going small game hunting I'll take a 22 and a shotgun, pick one for the morning and switch at lunchtime.

    Moose Caliber: Maine

My sister and BIL have lived in Maine for years. They have taken 7 moose and say an illuminated scope is more important than the rifle or caliber. They have said that their longest shot was 70yrds and all in dense cover. They carry a Browning micro midas with 20" barrel in 243 Win with Barnes...

    Thoughts on eastern Tennessee

Born and raised just outside of Knoxville and have spent most of my adult life (excluding military) here. I love living and raising my family here. There is plenty of hunting opportunity here, but like most states east of the big river, the majority of the land is private. Hunting leases...

    Recommend me a Pad inflator

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D67KP5K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Flextail Gear Tiny pump X works great. It's only 3oz and functions as a lantern as well. For $25, it's worth it to me.

    Best Bone Saw

Sawzall with 8 or 10 inch fine tooth blade (which ever one is on sale at the box store) at home for cutting shanks. In the field I use a small Fiskars hatchet. It's my do-all field tool.

    Merino wool brand?

Minus 33 has great fit and very durable. Smartwool boxer briefs. I've used FL but they didn't last long which was surprising for their price.

    7mm ammo advice

I have the same rifle. I handload 175gr partitions, 160gr accubonds and tipped trophy bear claws, and 150gr ttsx. All shoot great. If your buying off the shelf ammo, it’s the cheapest part of your hunt. Buy cheap stuff for practice and spend whatever it takes for quality ammo for hunting.

Binoculars w/ stand, spotting scope or both?

Yes, I’ve used it in CO and WY for elk. Western Mountaineering temperature ratings are comfort ratings while most companies advertise there bags by survival ratings.

Binoculars w/ stand, spotting scope or both?

Get a very good set of binos before thinking about a spotter. Many places elk hunting you wouldn’t gain any advantage with a spotter but it depends on where you hunt. Look at Mavens or Zeiss Conquest. That’s the lowest level entry glass I would recommend. As far as the sleeping bag goes, can’t...

    Help me choose 10x42 Bins

You can get the conquests often for $750 (new open/demo) from eurooptics. They are great glass. I’ve used them side by side with Kowa and I prefer the colors of the Zeiss. I don’t think the SCLs are $600 better.
