I burned 22 points and drew the Unit 61 muzzleloader elk tag this year. I have been doing a lot of research for about 3 years and have a solid game plan put together for the hunt, but if anyone with experience on the unit has any info they would like to share, it would be appreciated.

Oregon's 2014 regulations now allow the use of non-lead bullets for muzzleloader hunts. From page 30 of the 2014 regulations. The following text is printed in the color blue, indicating it is a change to the prior year's regulations:
"Only conical bullets made of lead, lead alloy, or...
I am thinking of adding a new CVA "Northwest" legal muzzleloader to my bag of tricks. This NW version is available in the Optima and the Accura. The only difference between the Northwest Edition and the "standard" versions, from what I have learned, is the breech plug and the firing pin. With...
Don't be overly cautious to not make noise when moving on on elk. Elk are noisy critters, and the only things that sneak in on them are trying to kill them. In general, you can usually cover more ground and be more effective just sounding "elky".
If you want to look up the season dates in the prior years, go to the harvest reports for antelope, and look near the end of the document, and it will list the seasons and dates. If you look at the past three years or so you should have a good idea of this years dates. Here is the link to the...
They tag allocations in the regs are almost always the same as the recommendations, so the recommendations can be a good tool to plan what you'd like to apply for. It it helpful for me, because apps for Wyoming are right around the corner, and I like having in mind what I will be applying for...
For those of you like me who can hardly wait to see the new regs, you can basically see what they will be with the Arizona tag recommendations for 2014. These are rarely not approved. Below are the links:

I just recommend my buddy here in Oregon buy the Knight DISC Extreme. He got his rifle about 2 weeks ago and is having the same problem. I'm wondering if they have a quality control problem on the length of the breech plugs.
From my homework on that unit, I think a 300" bull may be a more reasonable expectation from that early rifle hunt. I have a mess of non-resident points and looked into that hunt a few years back.
I'm a non-resident for Colorado and in the same boat as you are (14 points). In 1999 we hunted 3 & 301 and had a great hunt there. You are hunting right across the state line from some prime Wyoming units. It appears you would draw with 14 points. At this point I am just buying points until...
Nevada works on a bonus point system rather than a preference point system. With Nevada's bonus points there is no point level where someone is guaranteed a tag, your odds only get better with each point you get. Nevada squares your points and adds the current year. That means last year when...
