I used to love fixed 4x on rimfires.
I bought my kid a CZ Scout, stuck a 4x on it for him. Dang thing is so handy, I carried it a few times this year in squirrel season. For my eyes, I really missed the extra Xs I’m used to. I seemed to have a bit more trouble with headshots vs my normal 6xs...
I’ve used 6x36 Leupolds in my rimfire levers, worked well for my use.
Picked up one of these and put on a CZ, seems good for the price. No complaints so far. I like at least 6x for squirrel hunting...
If that rifle fits you well, and you like it, no reason at all it can’t be an “all around” rifle.
Sound like you reload so the ammo issue doesn’t apply.
I don’t think a “higher-end” rifle would do you any better, with regards to hunting scenarios. Being an east coaster myself, it’s easy to...
Hope it turns out great for you.
What stock are you going with?
I’m debating on doing something very similar and just putting my other stuff away for the kid to have.
Factory ADL .243, cut to 21” B&C Ti. 105 Amax, IMR 4350 @ 2930. 6x42 FX3 till reticle broke, then 6x SWFA.
Through both shoulders, 150 yards.
235 yard exit:
70 yards, through shoulders:
150ish, shoulders, no exit, found under skin off side.
100ish, both shoulders, exited.
175...
You should measure the CBTO first. If you don’t have the tools to do so, use a sharpie for each bullet you’re planning on using.
Very easy/simple to do, then you won’t be guessing.
I see more exits, and prefer on game performance of Lapua Scenars to all of those.
I’ve used 105, 123, 139, 155 and 180. I’d say exits north of 90% of the time on whitetail.
3 155s and 1 180 have given me exits on elk.
You said you like shiny stocks?
What’s your reason for wrapping?
Last thing I would worry about is a Black bear catching sight of it, if that’s the concern.
Edit: Apologies, didn’t see your post that you wanted to get rid of the gloss and wood look. I don’t guess I’ve ever heard of anyone...
I had one in 6.5 PRC that was a hammer. I could have easily used it for anything I’ll ever do. Stock would have worked for me as gen purpose, but that’s subjective.
Guy at the range wanted it more than I did though, so it went down the road.
Very nice rifles and if I was in need of...
