    Thinning out the llama herd

Here’s cheddar, a nice boy and getting decent size, he’s really strong and muscular, a really pretty show type llama and 45” and this is Pedro, still young and little, he’s a little jumpy still but getting better every day just needs a little more handling and he’ll be solid. He’s 46.5” and...

    Thinning out the llama herd

Hey guys I’ve got 4 llamas I’m looking to send to another pasture. It would be great to keep them together, if possible. These guys all have great potential, someone with a little more free time than me could get some solid packers from them. They’re all in good health, with good solid pasterns...

Obtaining a refund from a "transporter"?

Sounds like Larry from Kodiak Adventure Lodge, or at least something he would do.

    meat to fat grind ratio

I've been doing 8% beef suet. I tried 15% on a batch in the past hoping for a little more fatty juicy flavor but ended up just being too much fat and left your mouth with a fatty coating, pretty unappetizing. I also do 30% bacon mix which I make right into patties and freeze as its the only way...

Mountain food try it before! Looking at you Peak Refuel

I've had good experience with Peak but haven't tried the chili mac or sweet pork meals. My experience with Off Grid has been iffy, some good, some not. The bison fajitas was was more spicy than I'd prefer on a backpack hunt, their curry dish was weird, edible but I wouldn't buy it again. Quail...

    Packing with llamas

They sure seem like they learn quick. Well done, thats got to feel really good having some packers that are good to go. How'd the one get loose? I had one get loose in the yard once while he was staked out, the stake out lead just came unsnapped from his halter, I know the fix but I think it was...

    007 Montana Antelope

You're probably too late for most of them at this point, but there are some that you just need to check in the night before the hunt. I wouldn't say type 2 is necessarily better, but its nice to reserve it and have it mostly all to yourself. Doesn't seem like theres as many type 1's but between...

    007 Montana Antelope

My dad hunted opening weekend 2 years ago and said it wasn't bad at all, he was told opening weekend of deer was worse because people combo the deer and antelope, but we hunted opening weekend of deer last year and I was amazed at the lack of hunting pressure. I'm going for opening weekend this...

    Packing with llamas

Why are we obsessing over eating llamas? (I'm kidding) I'd never eat a llama, I suppose in a real survival situation though... I've heard they aren't bad

    Packing with llamas

One of my favorite things I've bought recently has been some new lead ropes https://rockymtllamas.com/collections/trail-gear/products/string-along-lead they're great multi purpose lead ropes, for stringing together or tying up in the yard/field I'm still in the market for another pack saddle...

    Packing with llamas

The low line works perfect, I've been staking them out with a couple difference length lines but I really like this, no problems at all. I need to tie it as a high line and let them try that next

    Packing with llamas

I've found them to be quite a bit more odd than dog or horse people. I had a great weekend with my boys, they're not learning super fast but its slow and steady.
