How Much PTO Do You Have?

I have about 9 weeks between PTO and Holidays. I work in professional services and have certain times I cannot take PTO and a lot of deadline driven work. Decently flexible overall though. The self-employed guys that say they don't get PTO is silly. I view my PTO as an agreement that my...

    N. Idaho Sandpoint Area Fires

I think it would be the Deceitful fire by Prichard. It blew up a bit the last couple days. Ran east over Beaver Creek closer to Murray. Pic from FB:

    North Idaho wolves

I met a guy out in the woods a month ago that was telling me about his wolf hunting strategy. Essentially, find fresh sign, locate by howling at night and then e-calling in the early morning using distress calls. He shots a couple each summer and also traps in the winters. 40+ wolves in the last...

    Treestand Elk Hunting

I also know that spot, might look at Onx too much when I can recognize topo lines. Might want to delete your image. I do think finding some good trails in that area and sitting in a stand would be a good strategy. Get there early, it will be busy! I have though about it myself looking at nearby...

    My Idaho moose hunt

Congrats! Glad you found a bull, I only saw a few cows and calves around the time you were hunting.

    North Idaho Elk

We also had good bugling all day on the 18th. But we did not get it done. Hunted 9 days total and heard bugles most nights, and several days close to sunset and in the mornings before 8. They were down in the hell holes shortly after sunrise. A lot more hunters in the spot we hunted compared to...

From the field, north Idaho warning ⚠️

There was snow last year in ID/MT around Sept 27-28. And in 2017 there was 20+ inches at higher elevations around the 3rd week of Sept in ID.

What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

I was thinking there would be a few people here that would recognize that view.

What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

I have seen a few memorials in the woods, usually they are near trails or trailheads. This one was a bit more interesting, just under 1 mile from the road and 800 ft down with some thick trees/brush on the way. Would have been some work to get the bench there. Based on the dates of 1975-1994, he...

    Idaho Spring Bear

Some of the trails quite a ways outside of the wilderness area there have an elevation gain of 3k ft in a little over 2 miles depending on the route. So you can definitely be tested without going in the wilderness area. And having a truck camp setup would be much nicer for a place to rest after...

    Idaho Spring Bear

Pretty much all of the Stimson land is covered under the Large Tracts access program so no fees. Onx is pretty accurate with their "ID Possible Access" layer. IDFG Hunt planner map has the full details of land in the program so easy to compare the two.
