Choosing where to live in Alaska

The commute from the valley sucks, especially in the winter. As you look at places try to find something that has southern exposure, you’ll get more sun in the winter. We own a small place near downtown ANC and love it. Can walk to a ton of stuff in the summer, more nearby activities in the...

    Oregon ballot initiative

@gabenzeke unfortunately truth doesn’t get people riled up and drive clicks. Curious what RMEF has to say as well.

    Oregon ballot initiative

More fear mongering and fake news. Come on people. Section 9. ORS 167.335 is amended to read: (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, unless gross negligence can be shown, the provisions of ORS 167.315 (Animal abuse in the second degree) to 167.333 (Sexual assault of an...

    Poaching Fishing/Hunting

Interesting thought. I know it happens here locally in some of our more remote communities even with our very liberal subsistence bag and possession limits. And honestly I don’t have a huge problem with it for folks that truly have the need. I’ve also lived through where my dad and I going...

Certainly worth a gander.....but don't delete it just because you don't believe it.

Kinda neglects to look at other places around the world. North America isn’t the only continent with a fossil record of dinosaurs. The flood proposition would need to be corroborated with similar evidence across the entire planet. And frankly he doesn’t present any evidence other than “look at...

    Kifaru Thread

Haven’t watched the video. Goat hunts go wrong all the time. I shot one, couldn’t recover it. Sucks, feel horrible about it, punched my tag and moved on. Tried my best to recover without killing myself in the process. I bet most of the naysayers have never chased goats with a tag in their pocket.

Wildlife Gallery Taxidermy - Who has used them? What do you Think?

Used them for my only real piece of taxidermy other than just general tanning from trapping and whatnot. Very happy with the results. Know several other that’s have used them for goats, bears, and sheep with no complaints.

    Beaver Plane Prices on Kodiak

Kodiak transporter rates are based upon weight and distance. The beavers having the highest payload (Generally 1200lbs max, Seahawk will go to 1500 lbs) you can save money by cutting weight and flying into a spot closer to town. Cutting weight can get you into a smaller plane like a 180 also.

Glass vs contacts while hunting and scouting

I wear glasses daily. Disposable contacts when hunting multiple days or if it’s rainy/snowy. My buddy always laughs at me fighting with the contacts in the am when leaving camp. Would love to get lasik or similar someday...

    Bowhunting partner on Kodiak

It’s hard to say. The deep snow is definitely hard on the deer. But from what I’ve seen there it’s the late hard rain/freezes in the spring that really hammers them. There will still be plenty of deer though. Some parts of the island fair better than others during the hard winters. ADFG and the...

    Unwanted Black Bear

It’s learned behavior. Hopefully you can teach him that food isn’t available anymore or it’s impossible to get and haze it out somewhere else. But it’ll likely just become your neighbors problem that isn’t being diligent.

    Intermediate fly rod

TFO you get great quality for the money, excellent warranty, and they’re big supporters of Project Healing Waters. If you’re looking for something Made in the USA look at the St Croix Imperial series. Imperial’s a more of a medium fast action and are more forgiving than all these fancy ultra...

anyone here run the small kifaru box stove with the sawtooth?

I don’t see a small box stove on their website. But I have the 18” lite outdoors for my sawtooth and it’ll cook you out of there. Wouldn’t want a smaller stove just for the fact you have to feed it a lot more than the larger ones. And you have to cut your fuel much smaller.
