Tikka wood stock - why not?

I've got the hunter model in 6.5 x 55 and it is my most used rifle, in all conditions. It works just fine.

Black or Griz?

I'm not going to guess what species of bear it was, as based on your description it's likely a 50/50 guess depending on location. People run into grizzly bears all the time with little fanfare. Your friend should read less field and stream or watch less youtube. As to shooting or not...

Loaded rounds wont chamber??

You are seated too long, or, your seating die is set too low and causing the body neck junction to wrinkle. Screw your seater in until it touches the case when the ram is up all the way. Back the die off two complete turns, then adjust bullet seating depth.

Saddle pads.......

I like fleece lined wool pads that are contoured. Depending on the shape and build of the horse I'll run the straight pad (fat or mutton withered), pad and single blanket (decent shape decent build), or the pad and double blanket (good shape and or high withered). With a well built saddle...
