Colorado 2024 LE elk tag allocations?

Do you think the reason they don't release the numbers before the deadline is that it might reduce the number of qualifying licenses sold?

Elk Hunting/ Family Camping Tent Suggestions?

Yes, sleeping 4 on cots in a 10x14 Kodiak Canvas can be done. I have done it. My son, his 2 sons and I spent a week camping in a KC on a bird hunt. We did not have a wood stove but we did use a buddy heater just before bed and when we got up in the mornings to take the chill off. Nighttime...

You like your truck camper shell for Hunting?

I wouldn't have a truck without a topper. I know this is an old thread, but early on some mentioned how easy it would be for a thief or tweaker to break into the topper while your away. I leave my 3/4 ton Ram at trailheads for several days at a time. I never worry about anyone getting in...

    20V DeWalt Chainsaw review

I think some of the oil leaking is because as the motor runs (gas or electric) it operates an oil pump. This pump runs the entire time the motor turns. When you shut the motor off there is oil pressure between the oil pump and the bar. This pressurized oil leaks out of the oil hole in the bar.

    Attracting turkeys

I have heard that milo is good, but don't put it in piles. Scatter it in the woods. It will almost disappear in the leaves but the turkey will find it and it will look like a hay rake went through the woods. Some have put in a spreader like you put out fertilize or wheat with. The kind that...

    A God Thing - Elk Hunting Lesson from a 56 year old self-taught DIY'er

I am a believer. Let me tell 2 stories about God on the mountain. My second elk archery elk hunt in CO, 3 of us packed in about 3 miles to camp in a beautiful meadow. The third day one of my buddies shot a 5x5 right at dark. We started trying to track him at daylight. After 2 or 3 hours we...

    Hide-A-Key

I can remove the one license plate with the key under it with the back of my pocket knife, a dime or a penny. If worse comes to worse, I would rather take a rock or something and tear the plate off than have to break a window or walk several miles to get help.

    Hide-A-Key

I always put a spare door key behind license plate under one of the screws. Keep a key with a fob in the console.

Pack cleaning help- not your usual stink

Try filling it with charcoal and or coffee and let it sit for a week or so. I have heard it will get the smell out of freezer that has been unplugged for a few weeks. Worth a try.

    Worst spike camp locations

Several years ago in CO we packed in about a mile from a trailhead. Set up camp about 100 yards off the trail. This was a year when there was a fire ban in the county we were hunting. First morning after a 1 1/2 to 2 mile hike we hear a bugle. It was above us at about thermal change so we...

When do you own the area?

Several years ago, my son and I were headed to a gated trailhead on a pretty rough road. There was a pickup on our tail for quite a ways. I pulled over and let them by. Three guys were standing around the pickup when we got to the gate. They were getting their stuff together for a muzzle...

    Finishing cargo trailer interior

I actually put in 3 camper windows. Two small ones (one on either side) about midway of the trailer. The other I put near the front and it is a emergency escape window. Yes, I did have to cut through 2 of the structural studs. In my trailer the structural studs are 1X1 inch square tubing. I...

    Finishing cargo trailer interior

Our family bumper pull camper came back from a pheasant hunt very dirty and muddy a few years back. My wife had a fit. I bought a 16' X7" V-nose cargo trailer and converted it to a hunting camper. I insulated the floor, walls, and ceiling. I put in folding bunk beds, cabinets in the front...

    Would you risk it?

I have never tried it but I have heard the charcoal deal. I also heard to put coffee grounds in the freezer to absorb the odor. Of course after the repeated cleanings.

Boots for Dogs in Sand Burr Country?

There is a YouTube out there somewhere that shows how to make dog boots out of motor cycle tubes. That is what I use. No big loss if the dog looses one. Easy to make and easy to put on.
