varizoom and canon vixia hf R800

Curious if anyone has had any success using one of the varizoom products to control the canon vixia hf r800 video camera. I know it does not have a Lanc port but I also know that some cameras can be controlled by using an adapter from the Lanc cable to a 3.5 mm AV jack. I can't seem to find an answer on the interwebs, thought i'd throw it out here. Thanks in advance.

The adapter cables you speak of might be the ones for Sony cameras. I've not seen where any Canon cameras without the lanc port have been made to work.
