Hi All,

Curious if anyone has used the 308 Sierra Gamekings on deer/elk (or other species in general)? My 308 really likes the Sierra GMK 165 but I've only used it for target shooting thus far. Since it groups well, and a hunting a bullet, I figured I would check in with others on how it has performed for them in the field

It's the only bullet I've used. I have had very good luck with them. I shoot 180s out of my 300 WM, and also 150s and 165s out of the 30-06. I've recovered multiple perfectly mushroomed bullets out of deer and elk, they tend to pass through antelope.

those are excellent results. my experience with 165s in 30-06, and 140s in 7mm-08 on deer have mirrored the performance of a Nosler ballistic tip. rapid expansion, wide wounding and usually no pieces larger than a pencil eraser recovered. almost always exited deer though, fist to softball sized exit not uncommon ----- most shots were under 200yds and shoulder blade impacts.

Inexpensive and usually very accurate bullet that behaves like other cup/core bullets

I've shot the .270/150gr SGK. Fine bullet for deer, but a little on the soft side for my preferences.

I've shot a lot of them in everything from 243 on up. They are a little soft to push real hard and expect them to hold together especially in a light for caliber bullet. If you are shooting a 308 with the 165 I think it will work really well for you. The velocity will be low enough with a 308 for them to hold together pretty well. I've shot deer with the 165gr from a 30-06 and was happy with it. I haven't used it on a deer yet but my Ruger Scout rifle in 308 really likes the 165gr Gameking also.

I've used SGK's in .24, .25 .27 and .28 caliber rifles with great success. When I started to use .30 caliber rifles, I went to the magnums and I found that they tended to come apart way to fast for my liking. If your .308 rifle shoots them accurately I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with them.
