Hunting was tough today. Between clouds and fog limiting visibility to under 100 yds and the wind which was gusting over 50 mph, we didn't see much. A few deer here and there and a couple cows but they took off as soon as we saw them. I have only enough time for a quick hunt tomorrow morning so hopefully we can find another cow.

The weather did start to break just before dark and we were treated to an awesome sunset.

No luck this morning on the elk hunt. My dad and son are now headed home and I'm on the road to meet the Averys at Robby's house.

First morning at deer camp was windy and snowy. Ryan and Tanya headed out to do some glassing and hiking and sounds like they saw a few deer but no shooters. Robby and I did a little glassing as well with no deer spotted and then decided to do some hiking and look for tracks. We crossed quite a few sets of tracks and saw a few does but no bucks.

Robby is a sign reading machine.

Tanya and I are here and hunting deer, well Tanya is I’m just here to help her look around. :)

Nothing this morning but it was blowing snow sideways.

But there’s fresh snow on the ground and big deer around!

Blizzard conditions and hard to glass and no tracks out of the cover, but once we hit the trees and out of the wind, we found tracks. We caught up to a doe and her fawn then Justin tracked a small buck who gave us a good tour of that hillside and cover the deer are using right now. The buck took us to three fresh rubs, one shown above. Always wondered if mule deer bucks travel “lines” like a whitetail but I’ve never confirmed any scrapes. One scrape was on a 3” tree so probably a good buck, but this snow just came last night so no big tracks to follow. Hunted till noon. Very wet snow, drying out now at the trailer.

I'm going to throw these up for Justin. Hopefully he keeps your feet to the fire. Team rokslide seems to do pretty good when they hang out with you.

The wind seemed to slack off towards dark. Still no big bucks spotted but we have a good plan for tomorrow.

Robby and I took the horses up over the ridge this morning to glass some new country. Weather was clear and cold with a slight wind to start off. Once we got to our final glassing point the wind picked up and got some off and on snow flurries.

We ended up seeing 17 does in three different groups. The farthest group of does had a decent buck chasing them around but at around three miles we couldn't confirm his size. We are going to see if we can get a closer look tonight or tomorrow morning.
