    Food list for 7 days?

This year I looked at the prices of the healthy option backpacking meals, calculated how much I was going to spend on food for 10-12 days, and promptly bought a better dehydrator and a bunch of mylar bags. Going to make my own Buckwheat, dried fruit, coconut, brown sugar concoction for...

Whats your driving strategy when headed west?

After the Friday evening drive, I like the 17 hour day in the middle when heading west and you have the hunt to look forward to. Up at 3:30-4 and on the road isn't very different than hunting wake up times. With a cup of coffee, I'm good driving those first 2-3 hours until it gets light...

    Axis or FMJ for Elk

Fit is good, arrows spin true with three different heads with collars mounted, but cant speak to durability yet.

    DIY backpacking target?

I shoot a compound at 73 lbs, 505 gr arrow at 280 fps... Nailed a good number of grouse, stumps, trees, and haven't lost the first arrow yet. Obviously I'm not shooting rocks and real solid stuff though... Maybe it's the G5 small game head that keeps it from penetrating? Collar is important...

    Axis or FMJ for Elk

What I'm doing is Axis 300 50 gr brass 100 gr head 25 gr iron will collar. Remove the collar and broadhead, practice / tune with 125 gr field points.

    DIY backpacking target?

Get a G5 small game head and an iron will collar. Shoot stumps, trees, grouse. I have a similar arrow still going after 2 Elk trips...

    Kifaru Sawtooth

Camping over green grass can do it, with moist air inside the shelter, as the temp drops you get condensation on the inside. Really wet / rainy would do the same. Most of my trips have ended up being sporadic condensation at night with a good amount of sun to dry out during the day so it...

Your most haunting or embarrassing missed shots.

Embarrassing: Last year. Drawing on a small buck, trying to get anchored with the collar of my cold weather jacket, misfired and sent an arrow off into never never land. Nowhere close. Buck came back, stopped at 20 yards with vitals covered. Holding at full draw, no idea what my brain was...

    AAE Max Stealth won't stick

AAE Max vanes have an activator on the base of the vane. That's why you need to follow the process and not just what you like to do... Follow the directions, use new glue, you can't get them off with pliers. Only thing I don't like about them is they're heavy. I'm running a 4 fletch 3" Vanetec...

    Bow selection assistance.

Going to make an additional recommendation. Buy a couple years old, used. Spend the extra $$ you save on a press and a draw board and any other setup tools you need - ask here if you need recommendations. Pretty priceless to be able to do all your own work.

    Kifaru Sawtooth

Love mine. Palace for one. Good for two. Real "cozy" for more than that. It's a little heavy to pack for one person, I'll do it for a spike camp type setup, but if I'm looking to go lightweight it gets left at home unless I'm expecting cold/bad weather. Spike camp I'll bring the...

How do you lace your Crispi Thors?

Thors don't get stiffer, they're soft as hell. Only fully laced over the ankle boot I've ever sprained an ankle in. But, they are comfortable if you want a light-hiker type of boot. Almost zero break in, fit great. I still use mine, just not for anything serious. L&S Mountain Hunter Elite...

    Broadhead tuning sucks

This is effectively what I do. Except I shoot a bare shaft again against fletched field points before fletched field points vs. BH. Depending on how far off I am, I twist yokes, use cable guard, shim cams, or move rest to get bare shafts, fletched FP, fletched BH all hitting together...

I'll chime in as well. Buy with confidence. And do it quickly before I get any more bright ideas...

    Broadhead tuning sucks

Do whatever works for you, that's what's important I guess. Again my opinion: Paper tuning is a good start, but it isn't perfect. I've started that way, and had to make adjustments to get things flying the way I want afterwards. That's why I find bare shafts easier and then confirm with...

    Broadhead tuning sucks

I'm not sure what that even means... All I'm saying is tuning your field points and broadheads to hit together, will make your broadheads more effective.

    WTB Easton Axis 300 Match

So, if the OP doesn't take these, I might be interested. I'm running the 300's, 50 grain brass, but cut shorter which I'd just have to take off the back...

    Broadhead tuning sucks

My opinion: Bow isn't "Tuned" unless different broadheads and field points fly the same (ignoring the long range vertical drop). Think about it: If they don't, that means the broadhead and arrow is coming out at an angle and planing some before it stabilizes. You're losing efficiency...

    A couple hammock questions

Watching with interest. Just sold a tent, and want to give hammock camping a try to round out my kit. Been surfing threads and manufacturer sites myself. My understanding: Need hammock, underquilt, tarp, all rigging, then your normal bag or quilt. I personally would also want something I...
