    Check your brass

Found a shard of brass in a piece of 6.5PRC ADG brass the other day, after I had fired it. Thankfully nothing bad happened! I will be inspecting each case very carefully going forward.

Seekins PH2 6.5 PRC load development

From my notes, here's what worked for my PH2, you shouldn't need to blow a ton of time in development, these guns shoot well and I'm sure would be fine with other combinations. I spent way too much time and money playing with different combos and they were all fine. -I use ADG brass and F210...

Why the 7mm prc hate ?

As alluded to above, I think it's the marketing machine behind 'new' chamberings, and accompanying products, that are quite similar to some that already exist. Many view that as redundant and unnecessary and just another way of separating money from your wallet. Understandable. That said, I...

H1000 300 wsm long action loads

With the Berger 200.20x bullet I got around 2830fps with 4831SC. With the 208ELDm and 215 Berger I was around 2800. This is from a 24" barrel throated longer than SAAMI. There was a little more velocity to be had, but I prefer a decent buffer from pressure.

H1000 300 wsm long action loads

Been a while since I've seen RL23, unfortunately. H4831SC was pretty close to it in performance in my testing, a smidge less velocity but similar consistency and charge weights. It's been widely available lately.

H1000 300 wsm long action loads

200.20x and 208 ELDm with RL23 has been very consistent for me. Getting 2845fps from the 200.20x and 2815fps from the 208 ELDm in my 24" WSM in a medium action. RL26 and N560 have been good too with a little better velocity, but RL23 has just been super steady.

    Alterra mountain shadow carbon

My brother is getting one in a steel barrel. Should have it in a couple months. He seems impressed with them as well. For the money he's spending, I hope he loves the rifle!

156 Berger 6.5 PRC load data

+1. My load chronos at ~2880fps and I am plenty happy with that at this point. With the expense and scarcity of some of these components there's no need, in my mind, to beat the crap out of my brass and waste time having to rework/troubleshoot loads that develop issues by running it too close...

156 Berger 6.5 PRC load data

I have the same rifle. My notes with H1000, virgin Hornady brass, F210M primers and the 156 EOL are: Start 53.5g - 2729 End 57.5g - 2925 (this charge had bolt lift) I was able to get some ADG brass so I don't shoot the Hornady stuff anymore. The same 57.5g of H1000 in my ADG brass had no...

    Hawkins Hybrids for Defiance XM

Yep, they told me the same thing. Talley has direct mount rings you could use, but they aren't my preference. Ended up putting the pic rail on my Anti XM that defiance offers with Hawkins tactical rings.

Seekins Havak PH2 - Initial review

This pretty much mirrors my feelings on the stock and ergos. It's honestly more comfortable for me to get behind than 1 of my customs with a full CF stock, and just as stiff. Plenty of barrel float without looking weird. I did hit the bolt with some polish to smooth it up some, but that's not...

Seekins Havak PH2 - Initial review

I'd be curious where you run into pressure. My PH2 gives me heavier bolt lift and swipes around 2920ish with the 156 in Lapua brass. Long story short, I've gone back to 140 class bullets. For whatever reason, I can't match what the factory ammo achieves in terms of velocity without pressure...

Seekins Havak PH2 - Initial review

Will you be handloading for it, or just sticking with factory ammo?

    New Gun Break-in

My last 3 factory rifles went like so: Sako Finnlite - Cleaned upon receiving the rifle. Just started shooting it. It got cleaned after hunting season(s). No other time spent. Gun shoots great. Christensen Ridgeline - Shoot/clean/shoot/clean, etc. as recommended in the manual. Took...

Why can't we find any 6.5 PRC brass or ammo anywhere?

A batch of Lapua 6.5 PRC brass hit some online retailers last week. Unfortunately, it was gone in minutes if you got a notification. Nosler also had some premium brass for sale (not blemished) on their website for $97/per 50. It was in stock for most of a day, I believe. Some retailers are...

    Hells canyon armory

Ordered a rifle from him last january/february. In early December, I checked-in via email and he replied after a few days saying all current builds should be out his door by the end of March. Hopefully that holds up. Getting pretty excited for Spring Bear.

    Your Second Layer?

I like a Peloton 240 or Sawtooth for my second in most cases.

    300 WSM load shooting heavies

Mike is building me a similar rifle that should be done in the next couple of months. At the time I asked him about it, he had told me 2825-ish fps with 215s out of his 24" summit barrels. I assumed this was with RL26 or similar. I think 2900 would probably be a big ask with that class of...

    Christensen Ridgeline replacement stock

I put mine in a Stocky's carbon fiber m50. Far more comfortable to shoot now.

    Meateater Weatherby rifle

My father and brother both have one. 300WM and 300Wby. Both guns shoot their chosen factory ammo well and they like the rifles a lot. They don't handload or anything and didn't have to try a bunch of factory ammo to get accuracy they were happy with. I've handled them, and they seem...
