drew an antelope tag for area 75! The plan is to set up camp somewhere TBD and spend a week looking for a good buck. Would appreciate a PM with recommended camping area and sections of the unit worth spending some time in.
I’m glad to see this thread is still going. Back in Aug 2017 I mentioned that I had found the load I was looking for using H4831SC and the 200ELD-X. That load still holds up great but I can never leave we’ll enough alone....
I’ve been experimenting with the Berger 215 Hybrid in the 300WSM just...
I started at 64.0 grains and worked my way up in half grain increments until I hit pressure signs. In my Savage 12, I hit pressure at 68.0 grains. I was on a pretty good node at 67.0 grains with a 1.1" group at 200 yards. I started fine tuning with seating depth adjustments starting at 0.010...
I've done a fair amount of load development for the 300WSM. Without question, the best combo in my rifle is the 200 grain ELD-X with H4831SC. I did a seating depth study and in my rifle the bullets like to jump, 0.080" in fact. I'm pushing them at 2880 fps and they land in one ragged hole at...
Im also using the flying diamond for most of my pitches. For impromptu glassing shelters I use a half diamond with the rear pole on the outside and rear wall pulled inboard to create a small alcove.
PM me if you have one in good shape that you'd like to sell for a reasonable price. Interested in stove and liner options if available. Not particular about color.
Great thread. I've been using the DST for 3 years. Great versatility for weekend bivy trips. I carry it in my day pack for rigging up impromptu glassing shelters if needed.
I have one data point on game with the ELD-X. I used a 200 grain out of a 300WSM with a MV of 2870 to kill a large Wyoming bear at 530 yards. The bear was quartering slightly toward me. The bullet impacted in the rear portion of the shoulder and exited rear section of offside ribs. Bear went...
I've been trying to answer this question for myself and have been experimenting with cleaning intervals in my long range precision rifles. I've talked to some experienced long range guys who tell me the never clean their bores unless something starts to go to heck. These guys are going 500+...
I was turkey hunting in 121 this weekend. Saw 3 bears, all between 2200 - 2500 ft elevation on SW facing slopes working the green up on skidder trails. They are starting to move.
