Mid Asian Ibex with Asian Mountain Outfitters

In all honesty this post is not a surprise. As previously mentioned, a little google research turns up a number of stories such as this one regarding this outfitter, going back a long time. I truly am amazed he is still in business.

    Nevada luck! 283-284

283-284 can be a tough unit, but there are big rams in there. Are you going to go guided or try to do it DIY? NDOW's bighorn checkout summaries are a good place to start, if you haven't looked at them already.

    Sheep mounts and Taxidermist

I've enjoy looking at all of these mounts, so I figured I better add a photo of one of mine as well. Wildlife Revolutions in Reno, NV, did this '18 ram for me. I couldn't be happier.

Accidentally got NV unit 181-184 archery tag using first come first serve process

I wish I would have seen this post a week ago. You could have absolutely returned the tag and retained your bonus points. NV allows you to return your tag up to the day before the opening day of the hunt. You do not get a refund for the cost of the tag, but you would have got your bonus...

    2021 NWT

When I went up back in '15 it was actually cheaper for me to go to Calgary then overnight in Yellowknife then on to Norman Wells. I don't know why that option isn't brought up more, seems like everyone always recommends going through Edmonton. The world was also a different place back then...

T-minus 7 days and counting and I will be a sheephunter!

Take pictures until you get tired of taking pictures, and then take more. I've been fortunate to go on a couple dall hunts and I know I enjoy going back and looking at the photos every now and then. As mentioned before soak it all in, the hunts up north are awesome experiences. If you're...

    Stone Sheep hunt questions

Big Nine is definitely the big name out there, but with the new owners you are also going to be paying an absolute premium. From what I've heard in the sheep hunting rumor mill they've definitely ruffled some feathers with some of their old guides and pilots as well. I've also talked with a...

    NV 268 Ewe Hunt

Southern Nevada has had an extremely dry summer, to say the least, and it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon. There are a few guzzlers in 268 that are close to roads, and I would focus on them and you should be able to kill a ewe within a day. The sheep population in 268 is...

    Outdoor companies getting PPP loans

I'm an owner in what would be considered a medium to large heavy civil construction company in Nevada. We were deemed essential and have been working non-stop. As some other have mentioned, we also would have qualified but passed on the PPP program. I see some of my competition on the list of...

    Nevada PIW mule deer tag

In recent history 241-242, 231, and 221-223 have consistently produced the best bucks the last few years. Although the late season dates seem to make it appealing, I would steer clear of the units in NW Nevada as the deer herds up there are struggling bad. The NE corner of the state can be a...

Best way to fly with meat, cape and head from alaska dall sheep hunt

I killed a ram in Alaska in '18. As others have said the fish boxes are the way to go for the meat. If the cape is dried out and salted you can fit the head and cape in a medium sized duffel and check it as well. I've done that on hunts from the NWT and the Alaska hunt and it's worked fine...

    Quest for NWT Dall Sheep

Good luck!!! The NWT is an amazing place. Like Diddywahdiddy previously said, take as many pictures as you physically can. I've been fortunate enough to hunt north two times, and both times when I got home I wish I had taken more pictures. And, as previously mentioned, try to soak it all in...

    Crocs or a water/trail shoe

I've used water shoes similar to what reburn just posted. Like previously mentioned I just couldn't get comfortable with crocs in deeper/swifter water. With the water shoes it's not a concern at all. And they weigh a few ounces less than crocs.

    Is the Yukon pant enough

I guess I'm the opposite of everyone on there. I've been on two dall hunts, and if I were to go again I would seriously consider just taking the Yukon pant. I think a lot of it is going to depend on how often you're going to be wearing the rain pants. On my last hunt we were in our rain gear...

    Taxidermist for Dall Sheep

I've also got to get my $.02. I think Joe Zweifel at Wildlife Revolutions in Reno is one of the best in the sheep business right now as well. He's mounted two of my sheep, and a handful more for friends. I'm probably partial though, he did this ram I killed last year and I think it turned out...

Another potential nail in lead ammo's coffin....

This was an interesting article in the Las Vegas Review Journal just a couple days ago. Granted, it's discussing mercury in Peregrine Falcons, but it makes me wonder if the lead in the eagles isn't coming from another source. I also have an extremely hard time believing there is enough lead...

Here's a photo of sheep camp in the Chugach this last fall in 2018. The end of an awesome day.

Dall Sheep - Why so Expensive?

I hunted in the NWT in '15, and had booked the hunt a couple years prior. Following the hunt my father-in-law and I visited with the outfitter the following winter at the sheep show. His hunts had gone up a few thousand dollars already. My FIL was giving him hell, asking him how he could...
