Let’s play a game. Build me an optics system with $5K

I’d suggest 8x or 10x NLs / ELs no matter what. Then your bigger glass depends on a couple factors: Lots of varying terrain out west— if you’re gonna be looking for tine tips sticking out of brush at a mile, you can’t beat a spotter. If not, get big binos like the 15 SLCs. Your personal...

Packing meat in trail running shoes?

I would steer you away from the speedgoats for packing meat simply due to the high stack-height. They are a phenomenal trail running shoe, however the comparatively high stack height makes them a little more susceptible to ankle rolling, and a more dramatic ankle roll at that. Do that with...

Why cant people accept the fact that some people dont need a drop tested scope?

For me it’s pretty simple—I bust my butt for very few opportunities at animals that I’m interested in killing. It’s beyond frustrating when you do your part, only to have your equipment fail ( like I have experienced with a vx5 or cheap vortex ). Why wouldn’t people want to make an informed...

    Colorado Wolves Now Have 'Names'

Look forward to seeing this site all over the winter range. Colorado needs better names, like “add more wind” or “come down 1 mil.”

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I’ll add another—several years ago I was bow hunting roosevelts on the Oregon coast and the area was mostly 2nd growth with some old growth. I had been chasing around a stud 7pt bull until dark and had a couple miles of hiking in the dark to get back to the truck. After about a mile, I saw a few...

Tough Doe, Long (successful) Search. Slightly Poor Shot. 6.5 147 ELD-M.

Glad you found her! Some deer do weird things. I made the same shot on a buck last year with 168 vld & had a silver dollar sized exit. Red carpet blood trail the whole way, but the buck still managed to run 600yd before piling up. Can’t say the bullet didn’t do its job, or the shot placement...

    Colorado wolves released today

Just dropped off a couple UPS packages at my local ODFW, and they had just caught another one. He’s headed your way Colorado. At least I got to tell him good riddance.

    Who is dropping their standards?

For me it’s pretty simple: packing out a boned out buck sucks. So I want that buck to be something I’m excited about until my pack hits the tailgate.

    Idaho OTC tag purchase experience

This year the system failed me. Was given 25k in line, then after 30 minutes it told me my queue number was no longer valid. Got a new number at 65k, then within a few minutes it said it was my turn to purchase a tag (little walking man finished his walk and my app “dinged”). Once I was waiting...

    Cleaning rifle after season

My Christensen 7rm takes over 20 for it to settle back in. Now I just don’t clean it, and it keeps shooting 🤷🏼‍♂️

Have you ever seen a wolverine in the Lower 48?

I’m not an expert either, but we don’t have Fishers in the Eagle Caps, however we do have wolverines. https://myodfw.com/wildlife-viewing/species/wolverine

Tikka T3 7mm Federal Fusion 150 Feedback Needed

I’ve shot a few critters with Federal’s 175 Fusion 7mm load. Seems to cause a little more blood shot than something like a partition, but still maintains decent retained weight. I’d imagine the 150gr might cause a little more blood shot, but dead is dead.

Building a Nostalgic Bow Setup - Switchback XT

My Mathew’s Outback had a Trophy Taker Pronghorn Rest, Spot Hogg Real Deal sight, Fuse 2-piece quiver, 4” Limbsaver stabilizer, & shooting Easton Axis with Slick Tricks. Thanks for the nostalgia!

    Oregon Mule Deer season dates//Behavior

Depending on how much they got screwed with by archery hunters, October 1st I see younger bucks in summer range spots or nearby & older bucks somewhere a little more hidden but nearby. I chose parabolic curve in the event that you catch a little rutty action towards Halloween. That said, the new...
