When I was originally tested by VA for hearing loss, had a female LTC doc tell me my loss was severe in the 3500mhz and above…..she said it’s why I find it difficult to hear women’s voices…..I asked her if she would write me a note to give to my wife…..she didn’t find that funny at all...
Not really backcountry but kinda spooky….
Back in the early 90’s I was a young platoon leader for an Army scout (reconnaissance) platoon. We were on a exercise on Ft Richardson AK. We had been conducting various scout type missions over the course of a week and noticed that everywhere we went...
On timing….opening day is nice because the rams haven’t been taken yet, but the downside is pressure. I always hated “competing” for a ram with other hunters around. Great way to blow sheep out if you get someone who doesn’t care your already making a move….back in the days that 14A was all...
The evening before the opener. Old girl is 12 and this will be her last season. She has been one hell of a hunter and will be really hard to replace. She gets to be spoiled in her old age.
She ends the season in style
I have both and have run both for a lot of years. In shallow hard bottomed rivers and creeks, a jet boat is the way to go. I’ve run mud motors in those conditions and it does ok until you start hitting bottom and it kicks up on you,You lose momentum and if it’s still shallow, your pushing a...

I lived in both Birchwood and Wasilla (up KGB). Both properties were 2.5 acres. Birchwood commute was 15 minutes. Wasilla was 50 minutes on a good day. Winter weather and accidents can make it hours. I guess I got used to the commute, but wouldn’t want to go back to it. I put 4-500 miles on the...
agree with low hit opinions. The blood on the arrow doesn’t look right for double lung. This pic was a week ago. Pass through at 62 yards. I watched him go down.
Thank you for that information. The barrel is pretty corroded in that area, nothing visible to my eyes). When I found it, just the end of the receiver was sticking out of the dirt. It had likely been buried for about 30 plus years by then.
I know this may be a long shot on a hunting forum, but thought I’d try.
I found this M1 sticking out of a dirt pile near an excavation site in the town of Ulm Germany when I was a kid (78-79 ish). I cleaned it up and actually got the bolt and sights to function. Anyways…the SN on the receiver...
So, I’m now doing what many retired Alaskans do…..I migrate in the winter. So, two areas to compare.
Wasilla Alaska…
Pros: vast expanses to explore, rules aren’t so burdensome, and in the winter, you can point a sled in a direction and go a long way and never see a no trespassing sign...
I use the 7” between antlers method, but……getting it right on a bull that’s 49.5” vs 50.5” is pretty tough until you walk up to them….if it’s close, I count brow tines. The moose below is the only one I’ve ever said yes to when I knew it was close and the brow tines were not there…..but I had...
So, what is your goal for proposing a point system? If it’s to increase YOUR odds of drawing a sweet tag, then it may work for you once…but once you burn your points you’ll be sitting out for the next decade or three trying to catch back up. Random draw gets my vote. My daughter drew a TMA tag...
