Expensive multi tools. Got a Leatherman Skeletool for ~$80 that I never use.
A cheap walmart multi tool is ~$6, has more tools, weighs only half an ounce more and i don't care if I lose it. Probably not as durable but whatever... I'll replace it if needed without second thought. I'm much more...
Hey folks,
I just moved to the Seattle, WA (Covington) area and am looking to continue my not-so-illustrious hunting career here. I've been hunting for ~4 years and connected with my first deer last year in CA. I'm down to hunt just about anything and also go on scouting, fishing, and whatever...
I'm moving CA > WA too and came here with the exact same question as OP. I hope all the negative replies are just to discourage folks from moving to WA... otherwise I'd be pretty heart broken. I was hoping hunting would be better up there.
I see some folks say to get the fat out but I actually like to keep as much of it as possible. It doesn't go rancid that fast and it's all good calories. Make the meals right before you head out and make enough for the trip so you don't end up storing it for a while. Even then, vac sealed and...
Sharing anything we got was an absolute no-brainer to me. Getting the deer was the 'easy' part... packing it out was the hard as hell part... if we're sharing the work, we should also share the reward.
We talked so much on the hike back to camp. I'd sing too "Hi Ho Hi Ho Off to camp we go..." Lol! Good times. We did see some eyes glowing in the distance... I guessed deer but we'll never know
All the best and good luck. What I learned on this hunt that I'd been missing on all my previous hunts...
I'm sure it's all in my head. All the predators for the most part are more afraid of us and avoid us but I'm just not used to the darkness of the woods. My mind starts to wander and everything looks like a bear that wants to tear me apart. It's just instinct and not being comfortable with the...
Super ******* tough! We learned our first lessons on the hike in:
1. We are way too out of shape to go from sea level to ~8k and then hike up to ~10k with gear. We're going to be doing A LOT of hikes with packs until next year
2. We need to lighten up our packs considerably. Before heading out...
I don't post much here but I read A LOT! You can't imagine how many google searches I've made "rokslide <insert gear/topic i need to learn about>" to learn from all of yous so i want to say: Thank you all!
Another, what I think is important piece, I forgot to write about was my thoughts on the...
I've been bow hiking for 4 years now. All of my hunting excursions have been absolute garbage. I've mostly been up to Mendocino NF where it's too thick to glass (where I'd go anyway) and the place was overrun with road hunters. I'd hike around making a bunch of noise, scaring everything away and...
I have a 50# bag of concrete mix that cost around 4$. I've just wrapped the whole thing in duct tape so it doesn't get me or my pack dirty. Works like a charm!
I dehydrated a bunch of vegetabkes and made beef jerky. I found bone broth powder in small via type packages. I put it all together, add hot water and done. It's not great, tbh, but after a hard day, when it's cold at night, it feels incredible!
Seek outside Cimarron is the only tent I've ever had. I was super worried about it being floorless at first but it's been awesome tbh. I am in California and haven't camped much in rain but i can imagine how nice it must be to be able to just walk in to the tent without having to take boots off...
I've been waiting for a coupon/discount so I can get a sausage stuffer but it's been pretty dry for the past few months. There was a $100 club points offer when banks for the card switched to Capital One. You had to make something like 15 purchases with the card to get $100 extra points.
I'd...
I'm on their mailing list and they regularly send out promo's (mostly extra moosejaw cash back i think)
(also, they are owned by walmart now. that may or may not matter to you)
