I’ve done many 10mile days.. me and 3 other guys hauled an elk and out camp out 9.9 miles this archery season.. most I’ve done in a day is 16 with a day pack..
Mileage should be a matter of necessity not because I can.. if I can keep it a few miles it makes life easy..as others have said it...
If you decide it to hunt it there is options for packing/hauling meat. You might be able to contract a packer just for that purpose or you can rent lamas..
One thing about a lot of that country over there is not like a lot of other wilderness areas. What I mean is that it’s not like you reach...
Greetings all
I’m planning a mule deer hunt in Colorado this coming season. I have 5 non res points and I’m looking at unit 3+ either a 3rd or 4th rifle. No matter what unit I decide on I’m not expecting 180”+ bucks. Im just after a mature deer.
So my questions are has anyone been in this unit...
Hunted it for many yrs.. I used to hunt up the tiller trail highway, everything on the right heading south east is in the Evans creek unit.. hunted up around oak ridge as well.. IMO the hunt isn’t what it used to be but what hunt that’s OTC really is anymore..
About the only thing I haven’t...
I’m a glasser.. I can sit and glass for hrs. I’m in the valley so we have a lot of logged off units that are perfectly suited for glassing.
Funny the reason you stated you’re not hunting mule deer. I’ve never killed a Muley just blacktail but I was thinking the same thing why I wanted to...
looking at doing a late season whitetail in Idaho this yr.
any pointers as far elevation to look at, are they more geared toward agriculture ground etc.
whitetail in general is pretty greek to me.
regards,
like many of you i spend alot of time on google earth.
have any of you ever seen an elk in your "scouting". i've seen hikers, cars, what looks like old dump sites etc. but haven't found an elk yet.
Yeah I know.. the good archery hunt used to be in the rut but moved it, across the road to the north east there is no archery hunt, to the west across the other road they have seasons for all weapons.. makes no sense to me
I will be applying for ML most likely, no archery hunts worth the points and rifle is non sense waiting that long.
well I figure use em up then I can get back to building for a decent archery or middle of the road Ml hunt.
Thought I’d draw last year with 11 in a party with another but we didn’t.
What unit should I burn these points on. With tag creep not waiting for juniper, thinking beattys ML.
Where would you burn em?
i'm looking at a later season whitetail hunt in Idaho.
i see there is a non resident JR/mentor tag. is this a separate tag for the youth or are they using the adults tag.
i would love to take my son with me just trying to figure this tag out and still working out what unit to hunt.
thanks,
Brian
