Pics of wood and blues steel rifles

Winchester 94 30-30 manufactured between 1905-06. Based on serial number. Old Marble #6 front sight This old gun belongs to my dad. We have a handful between us, but this is hands down my favorite centerfire levergun when it comes to cool factor.

Which 30-30 Ammo would you choose

Which one does your rifle prefer? Your rifle will tell you which one it likes. Terminal performance wise, I doubt you will see much difference. If you can afford to do so, you can always get both, determine which works best and sell the others. I guarantee you will not have a problem selling...

What’s the gnarliest situation you’ve been in while hunting?

I told my old Redhead ex-girlfriend to "Calm Down".... Doc said I was lucky.

    light weight hunting knives

I spare no expense. A couple $8 Mora knives and an ultra light 5 dollar sharpener that I might use to touch up the edge, which takes all of about 1 minute is what I use these days. I do have a Havalon that if I remember to put in, I will use it to get the hide off. But primarily, I just use a...

    155 Scenar performance on game?

In the picture above, where I recovered the bullet (the 615 yard cow 20" T3 on top of it), based on my drop chart had a velocity around 1800fps, and still gave complete broadside penetration from the shoulder to the offside hide. Its further out than I am normally comfortable shooting that...

    Ohhhhh.......riiiiiiight.

Nobody was hurt, the rifle did not discharge when it impacted the ground. Stuff is just stuff and she is OK and did not fall out of the tree herself or get injured in a safety harness or some other mess. Things could have been way worse. Count your blessings. Hang that stock on the wall of...

    6.5 Creedmoor vs .308 Win

I have T3s in both and under 500 yards you would be hard pressed to tell any difference in the real world. The .308 can take much heavier bullets, which I prefer for elk/larger game. The 6.5 has less recoil. The .308 has a much wider variety of components. The .30 caliber components are...

    155 Scenar performance on game?

Another Elk the kid punched with her 20" .308 and a Scenar a couple years ago: Hard to argue the results. Though it is the internet and some guys will argue anyways.. :)

    155 Scenar performance on game?

Lots of elk here with the 155 Scenar, mostly from my little 20" T3. Mule deer as well. They tend to pencil through on smaller stuff like coyotes, as they have a pretty thick jacket. I did not use my .308 this year. Instead I used a 6.5 CM. The ELD-X bullets did not impress me, but not much info...

Need a lighter, longer range deer rifle - Update @ No. 74

I appreciate the kind gesture. I have enough components, Time is the real commodity I lack (like most of us). I did get up to my cabin and look around this last weekend and there were no shortage of elk, both cows and bulls, out. We shall see how it works out here pretty soon.

Bullet type for all big game, all ranges

I can't recall if its ok to link to another forum or not. If it is not, forgive me and I will take down the link. This link is to a thread on the Campfire Forum called Deceased By Scenar. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/4977783/all/Deceased_via_Scenar_bullet_pix...

    Rattle Can Rifle Camo

In the early 2000s Tikka imported the Tikka T3 Varmint in .308. I picked one up, then they changed a couple minor details, called it a "Tactical" and charged about $250 more. I was thankful to have picked up an early one when the were around $400. The stock has been Kryloned a couple times and...

    Rattle Can Rifle Camo

This is an older 8 twist .223 T3 that I bought many years ago and traded to a friend a number of years back. It has accounted for a good number of dogs, both camouflaged and in its original form. It was 10 below the morning this dog was taken. The thing froze stiff pretty quick. Some more...

Need a lighter, longer range deer rifle - Update @ No. 74

The Game Ears is an excellent idea. He has great hearing aids, but hates to wear them due to the wind noise, so he often takes them out, The primary problem is his mental state. He absolutely does not see this but he gets caught up/fixated in minutia. along with doing all manner of things that...

    For You Handgun Guys

In my case the lightweight Ruger Flattop was nowhere as expensive as a Freedom Arms, and I wanted a 6 shooter, versus a Model 97 (closest comparison) which is a 5 shooter. That said, the Freedom Arms are superb, and if I was doing a custom single action and hunting was the primary intention for...

Need a lighter, longer range deer rifle - Update @ No. 74

Its all good. It's hard to tell sarcasm online, as well as dry humor (Which I apparently am not too good at) While I have a couple 30-06s I tend to skip them and go straight to a 300 wm that is one of my primary guns for late season hunts when the elk are down low and the shots can get long...

    Backcountry T3x Stock

I took my 6.5 Manbun sporter weight and took it out of the factory T3X stock and put it in an older T3 Varmint stock. The wider fore-end and cheek piece were a definite asset in terms of shooting over packs, bags, etc. Plus there were no contact points on the barrel, since the stock was...
