Ever use that thing that points N,S,E,W

I carry a compass and know how to use it well along with my map and GPS. I have only had to use a compass probably 5x at the most and in all instances it was snowing like bajeeza's. The farthest I have hunted off the road was 10 miles, so perhaps if I would get out of my comfort zone I would...

Wow ! When did we all get so PO'd

Received a new archery magazine in the mail this evening. ALL but one picture I found the hunters looked PO'd with their critters. Even the photo's with the manly Turkey..... for crying out loud. If you are not out there being HAPPY, to just be out there hunting with a legal weapon in your hands...

I have had some serious foot issue's over the years. Cracked heel about 10 years ago and last year a Coral infection in foot pad, thank the Lord for insurance (Dr. bill $15,500) I am very interested in talking with various shoe reps.but..... I still would get the inkling that they would be like...

    Euro Mount ??

If I am so lucky and decide I wish to do a Euro mount, can I and do i just break off the lower jaw as that being unnecessary for the mount? I have always taken the entire head/hide on Elk...if I can lighten my load considerably:cool:

Well, that just gives hunters a bad name......Why!?

I read this somewhere and it does make some sense to me. Joe Nimrod crosses a fence and shoots a "critter" gets busted for the umteenth time OR the first time. We state "he gives us hunters a bad name." Change the game.. Larry on the other side of town drives too fast and runs over someone's...

Water treatment - One More Time

Where I hunt < and I know the area very well> there is no pristine running creeks...those creeks of course still carrying all internal bad bugs for your insides. I had a severe virus 4 years ago or so which I believe came from drinking bad water so now I am paranoid beyond belief. I have to...

    Dromedary question x2

Mine is leaking a little is that normal in that I need to carry it always right side up? How far in do you carry yours (6 liters) if you do carry it with water? I think if I stash it in a tree 1/2mile from camp good enough.....maybe. Tried, well actually did fill it last weekend via a filter...

    Quiet'n your set-up

Read a thread in the Trad Mag TBM about 8 mo ago concerning various string attachments to silence your bow. Guy really got into some detail on testing any all silencing devices. One of the better ones was Beaver/Muskrat fur....which i like. Been shooting my new bow for almost a year and just put...

    Backpack Belts

I have a new to me Kifaru LH, looks hardly used if at all and best of all I am happy. I was using a simple child carrier pack to haul a young one and it had those just pull waist belts, not like pulling each end. Not sure how to explain it. I feel as if I can cinch my waist up just fine by...

    Did a little scouting yesterday

Looked everywhere for my camera before I left the house so no pic's to share. Went in to where I had intended to camp and attempt to find a better trail to a great NORTH FACING water seep via of course any bovine trails available. Compass , map and GPS came in handy many times. This way in did...

    Colorado eastern plains

I had to go to Denver for work Thursday evening all day Friday, so I turned it into a scouting trip for Antelope heading east on I-70. I have one of those Colo State topo maps which have the little grey colored parcels of land indicating 1 mile X 1 mile public. 9 areas and only 3 did not have a...

Do you apply for Bear every year?

Shot me a dandy of a Bear two years ago on a Friday evening, did not apply last year. Bear tasted better than good and made a fantastic rug. The only thing that bothered me was ....after I shot him it was vital IMHO to get him down the mountain as he was a insect/fly magnet. So for 2 days I am...

Ever have a serious issue with your bow while wayyy back

I shoot a stick so my bow issues while back 3 miles from the rig are not as serious....I think, as a compound shooter might have. Unless you carry the equip. and are mechanical to some degree. My bow was cracked last year discovered by a buddy while we were glassing, so that gets pretty...

    Trad bow test

I did my own little Trad bow test last evening, just to make me go wow. We had some pieces of lumber nailed up at work that no one was using so i put a mark on them at 1' increments and put it up beside my Rhinehart. Usually, I pull up and my minds eye does some adjusting and I release. At...

How far do you practice at?

I saw in the Archery Forum above where the Montana dude shot out to just over 103 yards with his compound and had a great grouping. I am fortunate enough to be able to extend the range out at my place right out the front door. I shoot my Recurve almost daily (probably 40 arrows) from 20 yards...

Turkey season starts tomorrow and .....sicker than !@#$

Second time ever this has happened to me during a hunting season. Coughing, the nose and sneezing. Now I have to cram my face into my arm joint as I cruise the forest. It exhausts me walk up the freaking stairs !@#$! I am probably contaminating you by you reading this. How many times has the BUG...

    Jumped a buck or two

I have, like all of you jumped a Buck or two while stalking through the woods (having fun). Twice while making this trek "down" the hillside I have jumped a buck and only seen antlers bobbing downhill. These two times that it has worked for me, I go back up hill 50 yards and then skirt...

    Great pictures of topo maps

I have ...like all of you, seen a bazillion GREAT pictures in magazines and on line of hunters diligently looking at their topo's, GPS in their hand and compass placed in the photo somewhere as well. I have met in the forest or anywhere else for that matter hunters w/GPS topo's etc., that have...
