    Elk Hunt Rookie Questions

here’s my thoughts on a couple questions you had. 1) regarding bugle tubes, my opinion is in general cow calls get you closer to elk than bugles. Not saying bugles don’t have their place, but I tend to locate and get closer to elk more often with cow calls. That said I do pack a bugle tube and...

    ILF string alignment

That’s for the reply’s. I’ll snag a pair of guides to make sure I’m in good alignment Ryan

    ILF string alignment

Educate me on string alignment. How do you check it? What are indicators that it may be miss aligned? I’m doing my last bit of tune before my upcoming season. Wanting to make sure everything is right. I look down the limbs and eyeball my string- everything looks good but is there a measurable...

Also the limb camo- is that a hydro dip? Paint?

    2023 preparations

I drew the UT mule deer buck general season ALW tag. This year the Ogden unit falls into antler less elk control. So I’m sitting on two elk tags and a buck tag this season. Love this state.

    New shelter

Wife wants to elk hunt with me this year but refuses to sleep in my floorless shelter. Looking for a true 2p 3 season tent. Ideally it would be about 3-4lbs, sleep both of us ( I use a wide long pad. I’m 6’4”) and cost 3-400$. What are you guys using that is close to filling my needs?

    Rookie fletching question

Your instincts come with a 100gr outsert correct? At least I thought they did. Looking to use a full length instinct 350 spine. Have been using a BE vintage 400 with 225grs up front. Was a touch weak so I cut them to 32”- flew ok but was almost too short. Hope a 34” 350 with about the same point...

    Rookie fletching question

Excellent feedback I appreciate all your responses. The arrows/Broadheads I’m currently using are great but I just can’t help but try different set ups

    Rookie fletching question

Ya I understand bevel and helical need to match- what I didn’t know was if a 4 fletch has any offset at all. Is it common to have a twist on 4 fletch feathers? I guess in my mind they glued them on straight.

    Rookie fletching question

Didn’t think about that. Wanted to try black eagle instincts this year. Good to know thanks.

    Rookie fletching question

I agree with you and the single/no helical doesn’t make a ton of sense. Never been around 4 fletch. Wanted to try it this upcoming season just to try it. Kind of leaning towards a 4 fletch with a 3 blade. Maybe a woodsman

    Rookie fletching question

So I understand that quite well actually. What I’m asking is- is there a helical on a 4 fletched arrow or are they glued on straight? It’s relevant because if there is a helical on a 4 fletch then it will be a determining factor in Broadhead choice if I go with a single bevel. Apologies if my...

    Rookie fletching question

So every season I try out different Broadheads for the sake of just trying something new. However most of the broadheads have been single bevel attached to an arrow with a left wing feather. This year I’d like to try a 4 fletch arrow using trad vanes- is there a helical on a 4 fletch setup...

    Limb education needed

Draw length is a blessing and a curse. I’m just shy of 6’5”. Makes for great power and speed of an arrow- however it also makes it hard to find a draw weight I want at the draw length I have. Normally there is some math involved. Maybe one day I’ll have a custom bow

    Limb education needed

I’m not different than most people shooting trad- I love to tinker with my set up. Sometimes I make horrible component swap choices and have a real negative impact. Other times changes work well. Currently have 40# limbs, at my DL I’m holding 47#. With a set of 40# medium length limbs I would...

    Limb education needed

I anchor alongside my face. The “c” shape my hook creates fits over my cheek bone. Feel like this will ultimately be a “ just buy some limbs and see” type thing. Never shot another limb besides the BM I have.

    Limb education needed

My DL is 32”. Current riser is a 21” whitefeather lark. I just bought it last year. It’s fairly decent especially for the cost. That’s why I’m somewhat leaning towards shorter limbs vs a new riser. However I’ve never even shot a 64” or shorter bow. Was concerned a 21” riser and med limbs giving...
