Does anyone use a thermal while scanning before switching to traditional optics?

https://sightmark.com/blogs/news/thermal-legality-by-state Looks like it's legal lots of places. Never crossed my mind before aside from coyotes.

NEW FILM - Dichotomy of a Bowhunter by Lane Walter

Great stuff. I have had that struggle often. We adopted a son that ended up having a severe form of Epilepsy and man was it tough to navigate that balance. My wife still just doesn't get it, adding another layer of difficulty to something so embedded in who I am.

    How do people do it?

Tree arms can be as little as $50 and up. More you spend the sturdier and smoother panning you get. Most little gorilla arms and such will run $15-$20. If you get real serious you can get remote aiming and zooming stuff...way beyond my budget! Another new gadget I just got is the Hawk all...

    How do people do it?

100X easier in a tree than on the ground! I've used gorilla pods, tree arms, clip shots, even just sat the camera in my lap on a hand warmer. Granted most of my footage is bears, whitetail are quite a bit more skittish. It can be a tad tricky getting angles that work and don't require tons of...

Incidental predator call ins while elk hunting

Took this cat 20 yards during elk season. Hadn't called for a while, but it came in and wasn't leaving. It was locked on my brother and I swung around him and shot. He didn't have a clue I had a tag or that the season was open, just thought I was saving his life!

A Request for All the Elk Hunting YouTubers...

Definitely a pet peeve of mine 15 min of guys explaining what they are doing. BRO group set the stage for this putting 45 min of everyday online regardless if they saw anything or not. I get trying to tell a story and capture the struggle but man it got painful in a hurry. So now no animal...

    Spike Elk UTAH OTC

Not sure about rifle, but cut my teeth on these archery 30+ years ago. I have been back to help friends out. Love being in the woods anytime in September, but it can be magical in the LE units just seeing the elk do their thing. Killing the biggest thing is great, but it fills my tank just...

Have You Ever Notched Your Tag On Opening Day: A poll

A elk 1 opening day, 2 first day in camp all archery. One was 17 days after doing an Ironman that my wife wouldn't let me hunt for a year while I trained so I had a tad bit of built up yearning to be my element. It was bittersweet having it end in just two hours, but no way I was going to pass...

Going backwards? DSLR to Super Zoom

I don't think there's anything backwards about it, I love having a bigger zoom. One of my many pet peeves is all the video of guys glassing talking about the biggest bull or coolest scene they are watching. Give me a noisy video every day over guys talking about the greatest scene! Not sure...

    Videoing hunts

I'm a sucker for my old camcorder. I have shopped for years for something better, but I love having a big zoom (40x optical) on a camera that fits in a pocket and just haven't pulled the trigger waiting for a bigger zoom and a bigger sensor and still a decent size. I have been eyeing the under...

    self filming

Action cams are good if you're up close, like under 15 yards. Beyond that you're lucky if you can make out the animal. Self filming elk is just tough. I did buy a solvid cam strap still will have similar field of view to an action cam, but can quickly remove and have a decent zoom at your...

tracking dogs for wounded bears question

I sadly lost a moose I shot in a downpour and after months of not sleeping over it I found Blue Star. It's a cheaper version of what law enforcement uses on crime scenes. I was pretty leery at first but bought some after reading reviews. First test I sprayed a pack frame that hadn't been used...
