    6.5 PRC load

Got one whitetail with them. It was a close shot at 110 yards and rapid expansion was evident as the lungs were jelly. No exit wound. He went about 40 yards and piled up. I'm going to take it back out hog hunting later this month and see what happens.

Dude, that's an incredible mulie for Tejas! Congrats!

    Shooting off tripod help!!!!

The guys here have some great advice and are recommending the same methods as you see in PRS competitions. If you want to see some demos, search PRS competition or tripod shooting on youtube...plenty of examples to watch. Practice is key in positional shooting, so take your set up and try dry...

Seating Depth, what is the best?

Seating depth is one way to tune the harmonics of your barrel for max accuracy. You can also do it with a barrel tuner like the old Browning Boss system. Like others here, I start with a ladder test with the bullet seated to the factory recommended OAL. Once I find the velocity node I want...

    6.5 PRC load

I'm getting 3080-3094 with 57.8gr Retumbo and 144 Berger Long Range Hybrids in a 26" proof 1/8. Accuracy is running consistently at 1/2 MOA, SD of 8 and ES of 14, sample size of 20 rounds. That's using Gunwerks (Alpha I think) brass, 0.294 neck bushing, lubed necks, Fed Gold Medal Match Mag...

    Muledeer vs whitetail rut

I agree with the others, I've seen the same results in Nebraska the week before Thanksgiving. Whitetails breaking from the does and searching again and mulies getting locked up with does.

    300 Rum project part 2 w pics

Both of my 300 RUM's like Barnes 200 LRX's over 92.2 gr Retumbo @ 3170fps, 0.050" off the lands, 28" LW barrel. The heavier of the two rifles will put 3 into 5/8" at 200 but the lighter (9lbs) one will only hold 1" at 200. Either way, within 1000y, that's plenty. Now that Retumbo is gone, I'm...

    A Great Year

Congrats! It was a tough rifle opener for the guys in our camp over in 29. The vehicle traffic was reminiscent of the Indy 500. Lots of bucks on the ground but most were under 2 years old. I held out for an older buck and ended up eating the tag but had a great time. Congrats again on...

    Rifle build

Sounds like a great combo. Are you looking to shoot long, high BC bullets? If so, might want to consider the 300 PRC... And that's coming from a guy that loves the 300 rum. The issue is OAL for the cartridge with long bullets. The nosler design gets at that issue a little, but not as...

    Bushnell Impulse Verizon

Good pics, quick photo transfer, even with a poor cell signal. Does eat through batteries in about two months with 3 pic per activation, but that's not bad at all. Hell of a lot cheaper than four tanks of diesel to get there and check cards. I'm waiting on the new Browning cell camera to be...

    Sidearm caliber

Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag. While I typically prefer an auto for plinking or personal defense in town. I Prefer a revolver when in bear country. No issues with it getting knocked out of battery from gear or brush.

    Barnes LRX on deer

I love the lrx for game. I've dropped several past 500 and had excellent performance. Took a mulie with a 7mm may at 574y with a LRX, passed through both lungs, he dropped within 50 yards. Took another with a 300 RUM and 200LRX at 680y, dropped in his tracks. Gave the rifle to my partner, he...

    What tires are you running?

I've got 40k miles on my 10 ply Mickey Thompson mtz's with about 3/4" tred left. They've pulled me out of some mud holes that I never would have tried with the Goodyear's I had before them.

    High end rifle scopes

What do you plan on putting it on and at what engagement distances are you considering? In general, the higher end scopes do offer more capability, repeatability and clarity. That translates into more capability in the field under less than optimal light conditions. The older Schmidt 5-25s...

Custom long range builds kid friendly

When I started reading this thread, that is exactly what came to mind. I started mine out with an AR platform in 300 blackout, then switched the upper to a 6.5 Grendel. They were deadly on whitetails out to 400y for a few years until their arms were long enough to start shooting my precision...

Ultralight backpacking rifles and offhand shots

Longest off hand shot was with a Remington 783, 7mm Rem, 139gr Barnes TTSX handloads. It was a 4x4 mulie at 574 meters offhand, double lung shot. I spooked him at 240 yards on the opposite mountain and took a pop shot that missed. He ran further up the other mountain but calmed down once he...

    Idaho Unit 30(and surrounding area)

Also we've been noticing this week with no moon that we're not seeing deer hardly at all in the mornings but they seem to be moving well in the evenings.

    Idaho Unit 30(and surrounding area)

I'm standing in unit 29 looking across the road to unit 30 right now. Been a lot of elk Hunters up here this past 2 weeks and last year during mule deer season it was packed the first week but seem to die off the second. I spoke to two elk Hunters this morning who were getting ready for deer...
