    Barriers for new hunters? (Poll)

I know a lot of people who say they want to hunt out west, but they never do. I am curious of what you all think are the main barriers that make it difficult for people to make it happen? If you are a newer hunter yourself, let us know what are some of your current challenges you are trying to...

Hey all, I am looking for any recommendations for a horse or llama pack out service, we will be within 3 hours of salt lake to help with the 3 elk tags in our pockets in late august. We called 5 or 6 outfitters and only one said they provide a packout service. And the one that did offer it, is...

Question about Tikka 300 WM/300 WSM

I am planning to buy my first Tikka superlite here soon but I wanted to know how this works. A 300 WM is available for me to buy and the 300 WSM is out of stock. In the long run I want to cut the barrel of a 300 wsm tikka, load for, and add a suppressor. My question is, if I buy the 300 WM now...

Sold 10x42 SLC and 554 KOWA

Both of these were bought new spring of 2020, used both on a couple weekend scouting trips. The glass on both have no flaws as far as I can tell. This is an incredible set up, the 554 is very light and clear and the SLCs are fantastic. I just personally prefer 12s. TYD price for lower 48...

Does my "ideal" deer gun exist?

I am looking to have a 1 and done rifle for backcountry mule deer to 800 yards. I've done some research and have settled on the 6.5 PRC due to its high bc bullet options, short mag, mild recoil and good velocity retention downrange. I want to get a rifle that meets all my goals in a rifle and...

    CA hog hunt (group archery)

Hey all, I'm trying to plan a mid January 2020 archery hog hunt. Most guided options are over 1k if I go solo. I'd prefer to do a treaspassing fee to hunt free range hogs but I don't have any reliable resources for that. Seems like Tejon ranch would be the best opportunity if we got 8 guys/gals...

    CA Bear bowhunting advice

I will be going deep into a Sierra wilderness on my next archery trip w/ 2 deer tags and 1 bear tag in my pocket. On my scouting trips I have seen more bears than bucks, I need some advice on how to get up close to a bear within archery range? As soon as you spot a bear with your binos, do you...

    CA Sierra Deer hunting guide?

The CA opener is this weekend, I've got a AO tag and a D6 tag this year, I've done a month of scouting, glassing, getting off trail, at least 2 miles from roads, multiple elevations, found 26 does, not one legal buck. I'm not complaining, I just want to know if there are any Sierra mountain bow...

My prime rival 35 bow is definitely due for some new string / cables. What string/cable companies or specific recommendations do you guys recommend for accuracy and durability? What makes an expert hunter?

My question is simple. In your opinion, what makes an expert hunter? Is it number of animals taken? Is it hours in the field? Consistently harvesting trophy animals? Hunting with 3 kids and still getting the job done with a trad bow? The list goes on and on. I am curious as to what you would...

Maximizing the structural integrity of an arrow

I want to improve my arrow set up quality and reduce risk of arrow breakoff and improve penetration. I realize that when an arrow breaks inside an animal, the momentum is no longer in a linear direction, thus reducing penetration. What are some of the best arrow shafts, inserts, glues ect. to...
