Years ago I hooked up with my old archery teacher for a pig hunt. I was shooting a PSE with a huge overdraw kit, 70lb pull, with an old drop-away rest. That bow was super fast and flat. The arrows were only 2" longer than crossbow bolts at the time. The old timer that got me into archery took a...
That's why they created the bedroll Kiddogy. My bedroll may be a tad heavy, but when it's down below the 30's I sleep like a king! I have even overslept on 2 hunts.
I also store my stuff pretty snug. Roksolid, no. But compressed. I just throw it in the dryer then let it air out about a week before I leave. Then compress it again for the trip. Never been an issue. But I usually only see temps down in the 20's.
On another trip we took during the fall, we woke up about 0100 to loud noises. We thought a bear was tearing up the truck bed. Then I heard a muffled pop pop. The noise starts to sound like it was moving around the camp. I thought someone was firing a .22. I grab the .357 and scramble out of the...
7 years ago, while hunting in D5 zone of CA, me and my dad had set up camp with the intention of being there 9 days. On day 2 we left camp a little after 0500 to go out hunting. Got back to camp and realized that we had all of our coffee stolen. They didn't touch anything else. I wish they would...
I am old fashioned in alot of ways. I agree with what Kiddogy says. I feel that you should know your gun, and your skills. If you are one of those guys that hunts wide open ground, or switches up rifles I could see a use for a range finder. But I use the same rifle every year. I hunt wooded...
While I do agree with not pushing an outsider's opinion on certain topics, other topics do sometimes need outside help. Do realize that along with losing our right to hunt, comes no nonresident hunts also. And as this spreads to other states, especially ones that like to follow CA, people will...
I am an old fashioned guy. I wear 2lb loggers and believe that people can get caught up in all that hype of advertising. I have hunted 8 years with a 1970's Kelty. I have also done up to 7 days with that old Kelty. Better to be able to hunt with old gear than not at all. That said, I was asked...
Binders are used for tying down equipment to a trailer. Haul equipment long enough and you learn how to winch with a pair of binders. Drive 3 hours out into the boonies to pickup a tractor to find out that the battery in tractor is shot. My batteries weren't strong enough to jump it. Winch...
You can ask any farming/manufacturing/production facilities or supply houses for old rubber tracks or cleated conveyor belting. That's what some of the old timers used before this fancy stuff.
We have sticky clay where I am at. If you don't run muds, you better be ready with recovery gear. HiLifts are the ultimate helper, add a tow strap, 2 chains, a shovel, an axe, and 2 binders. Old tire chains turn any tires into boggers and I highly recommend them. I have literally been alone, no...
The Baby Bjorn when they are tiny. Then a bigger pack when they grow. Something to think about, their comfort over yours. The first kid didn't care as long as she went hiking. The second kid preferred the Osprey. The third preferred the Kelty Kids so much I had to put it up on a shelf because he...
I have the F1 main frame/ duffle/ scabbard. It is a nice pack. Its rides nice for me. It's a little on the heavier side. It's built well. I feel that it is a great pack if you are unsure about backpack hunting. The scabbard is awesome for crawling around in brush and rocks.
I also have a Kifaru...
I too have thought about fly fishing. Most of my friends do it. But they spend much more time at home working on stuff than I do. I just grab my fest and pole and hit the water. Usually I can catch more and bigger fish. But sometimes when the trout are real picky I get skunked and they can still...
I carry most everything previously mentioned. I am loaded for repairs like a Baja chase truck. Although I have never had truck problems. I did however get 2 flats in 2 days trying to push my truck through more than it was capable. Neither was repairable with plugs or slime. 1st tire I swapped to...
In D6 there are areas that produce every year. There are also areas (some seem great even in person) that do not hold deer. There are a few guys that will show you deer for $ on a couple of the FB pages. D6 is really hunted hard for its size. Your best bet is to spend a lot of time there. Not...
I had not heard of the Marsupial. Nor, am I an idea hater. Correct that it didn't actually answer my question. It did however open up my mind to other offerings that I didn't really know much about. So I thank you. I am now looking into options other than the AGC. So thanks again.
