I didn't put a spotting scope in the pouch but regarding the tripod, I could get the strap around two of the legs and then cinched it down. It takes a little finagling but it can be pretty sturdy.

The uncompaghre fit is usually a size larger. I got an xl, which is what I usually wear, and it almost swamps me. Definitely do not size up.
