read all you can on here. check maps, OnX. Went last year for first time. Being a Texas hunter was in the same boat. Went with a buddy. Get all your gear, lightweight if you're packing in. Shelter and footwear are most important things.
Do you guys fill your coolers with dry ice before hiking in? If so if you kill something and pack it out. How do you put the ice on the meat without it damaging the meat because of the dry ice being so cold. Or is that not a problem?
I've been searching for a unit in CO based on all kinds of criteria, But It seems when I'm looking at the map on Onx. There are "roads" everywhere. I want to get as far away from a road as possible but they seem to be everywhere. Are these actual roads or no?
I figured it wouldn't get too cold in early archery season. I have a pad already and was going to the outdoor vitals underquilt that will zip up over if needed.

Doing first pack in Elk hunt in CO in September. Was debating using a hammock sleep system instead of a tent. Not having to worry about level ground and sleeping on the rocky ground. Anyone with experience with hammocks and suggestions?
