    Experience with Barrett Fieldcraft?

Two thumbs up for the Barrett Fieldcraft. Mine is in 6.5 Creedmoor with 21" barrel. After trying nearly every kind of factory ammo available in Alaska found it likes the Hornady Precision Hunter best, anything faster tends to open up the group. Shoots .7 MOA consistently.

    Whose Long Range Mountain Rifle?

BTW, Travis from R Bros Rifles just got back to me and said "Really there isn't any good factory ammo for the cartridges you listed. In order to get the performance and accuracy out of them a guy needs to handload. If you want factory ammo and sub .5moa I would go with the 300 WM. Lots of...

    Whose Long Range Mountain Rifle?

Thanks folks for your thoughts. Believe me I'm listening to everything. Might help to know how I got here. 20+ years ago I had a custom .300 Weatherby Wildcat built by a riflesmith friend of mine. Jewel trigger, Krieger barrel, reworked 700 action and bolt, muzzle brake of course, etc, etc. He...

    Whose Long Range Mountain Rifle?

Would appreciate you folks recommendations. I'm looking for a rifle that shoots factory ammo at .5 MOA. 28 Nosler or 30 Nosler or 30 Ultramag or ???. Want the rifle to weigh in no more than 7lbs un-scoped. Deer/Elk/Sheep sized animals out to 800 yards. Initial thoughts are perhaps a Nosler 48...

Scope recommendations for 6.5 CM Barrett Fieldcraft

I went with a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44. I decided I was going to shoot factory ammo in the gun so figured I would go through a lot of brands before finding the best shooting ammo, the ballistic turret design (and their app) really made it easy adjusting for the different ammo. And of course I've...

    Kenai Camping Advice Needed

Download TheAlaskaApp As far as bringing a handgun for bear protection I wouldn't bother with a .40 S&W. I carry a Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull 360 gr while fishing and flying. Some guys carry a 10mm Gloch. The idea I suppose is to put a lot of holes in the bear. I love my 10mm Gloch but if I...

    Lightweight Tripod head recommendations

Looking for some recommendations on a lightweight, smooth tripod head to go between a Swaro 65mm ATS HD spotting scope and an Outdoorsman Compact Medium Tripod. I’m not concerned about cost, I’m looking for the best. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sheep Boots

I too have been on a "best boot" hunt for my first time mountain hunting. First choice was KUIU's Scarpa Rebel Ultra GTX. Ordered a size 14, which is what I wear, and I couldn't even get my foot into the built-in gaiter, much less into the boot itself. Seemed like I'd need to be a size 10. I...

    Alaska Boat Based Hunt Recommendations

A friend, his sons and his brother have booked a bear transport hunt with Ninilchik Charters. They asked me to join them and because there goods friends I agreed even though I already have a nice black bear and probably won’t take another. We will be around the Peninsula from Seldovia. Hunt is...

    New from Alaska

Howdy all. Until about ten years ago I lived in Texas and hunted the western U.S. and numerous countries around the world, then I stopped hunting to start a new business. Getting close to being able to sell that business now so am excited to get back into hunting. Especially sheep hunting...
