    SO Cimarron hot tent

This has probably been said, but I don’t know why you’d need a liner and a ground cloth. For your area, I’d skip the liner, though I’ve never dealt with the condensation from two people. And lighter ground cloth might be an option.

CO 2023 Estimated Harvest is up

Sure. My thought is just that I don't see how creating an app would solve the supposed problem, which seems to be widely held, that rampant lying causes harvest reports to be useless. The supposed liars would just... not use the app, or lie, right? What would make it more accurate than the...

CO 2023 Estimated Harvest is up

I’m skeptical. I mean, the majority of hunters report that they did not get an elk right? Something like 80%? Is CPW going to spend all the money to do the detective work on *every one* of those to make sure they did not in fact get an elk? That seems like a massive undertaking. What about the...

CO 2023 Estimated Harvest is up

Maybe I don’t understand how mandatory reporting would work. Where does this wildlife officer go to confirm that you killed (or didn’t kill) an elk? Your house? Does he get to search your premises on the grounds that you *might* have lied?

CO 2023 Estimated Harvest is up

I'm surprised at how the predominate opinion here seems to be something like... 1. People lie on their reports, so they cannot be trusted 2. We should mandate reporting Maybe I'm not understanding the argument.

Backpack Hot Tent or Basecamp Outfitter Tent?

Personally, I prioritize mobility if I'm hunting an area I don't know well. So, for me, neither :). Backpacking into the backcountry is a big time and energy investment that might not be wise if you don't know that elk are back there. You might lose a full day getting out and moving somewhere...

    Money or Happiness

It is quite possible that a few years after quitting this job and finding another you like better, you will again be in this same predicament. I.e. bored, unmotivated, with a grass-is-greener perspective. That’s not to say one should never take risks and try something new. But try to recognize...

How can I like the taste of venison

Venison does taste different from beef, generally. Similar, sure - but even perfect handling and cooking will not cause it to taste exactly like what you are used to eating in the past. So part of the process here will be just be about growing accustomed to the new flavor.

    Gaining muscle for hunting?

I’m naturally a thin guy. In the last 6 months or so I’ve started doing some simple strength training. Have definitely gained strength, muscle mass, and weight. I’m wondering if others who have done that have noticed any changes, positive or negative, for backcountry hunting. Strength in the...

    Tent or tipi recommendation

In my limited experience- that’s exactly the kind of circumstances where it’s really nice to have a stove :) but, if it’s *very* windy and/or there’s a risk of lots of snow, a 4-season tent is probably more reliable.

    Colorado releases first 5 wolves

A quick google search of Wisconsin wolf reintroduction shows that the DNR there never reintroduced wolves. They say wolves expanded naturally from Minnesota once they were federally protected.

    Please help w/ Elk boots

If your feet blister, you might appreciate a relatively flexible boot. Seems to me that would be more likely to bend with your foot than rub against it. That’s certainly what I prefer. I don’t wear anything more sturdy than a crispi lapponia and I’ve been quite happy.

    blood stained game bags

Soak in a bucket for a day or so in dish soap and water. Might replace the water a few times. Then scrub with soap and water in a sink or tub. Basically the same as washing clothes by hand, if you've ever done that. I ran them through the clothes washer once. I was very unpopular at home that...

    First heavy pack out nightmares

I’m sure others have said this, but… you’ll find plenty of suggestions for pack upgrades in the forums here (it is probably the single most discussed topic). But with a 1.5 mile trip I would have just double tripped it if the full load really sucked. Meaning, two pack outs instead of one. Less...

    Late season elk strategy

Forgive me for possibly rehashing a common topic. I have a 4th season cow elk tag in a unit of western CO. I've hunted 4th season CO cow elk a few times, so I'm not a complete beginner, but I'm hunting a brand new area to me, and I wanted to ping the forum for some general ideas. Generally...
