It was fun! I've been back out for pronghorn once, plus an unsuccessful trip for muleys. I'm planning on another antelope trip this year. It's always fun!
Sorry, I'm just seeing your post. It was chilly on the morning and warm in the afternoons that year. Those rattlers were definitely still doing their things.
Congrats! That sounds like a blast. I'm heading out for my first muley hunt this year as well, but with my gun. Like you, I've taken pronghorn in the past, but expect this to be a whole new ballgame. Can't wait!
Thanks, it was a great surprise, as we were walking into the blind and he decided to light me up from the nearby timber, so my buddy called behind me while I posted in some stickers. 5 minutes later, I have my turkey from 15 yards. Got lucky! I'll be doing a full body mount on him.
I saw people camping, some weren't hunting. We didn't camp, but I do have a number that might help. I can't remember the gentleman's name I spoke to. This is for the field office in the grasslands - 308-665-2924
Monday was our last day as well. We didn't end up taking a speed goat between the 2 of us. The wind hurt the water sitting option on Monday and about took my blind despite 9 stakes. I learned a lot about chasing them with a bow. All said, it was a fun time with lots of memories!
Took the father in law out today. We're sitting on tanks in the grasslands. It's not bad here. Saw a couple hunters when we arrived but nobody where we are at. Also saw a few speed goats at the water as we approached, so we will see what patience will get us.
Hey Husker, did you get more rain out there this year? I'm curious if I should expect more green, based on your comment about the grass. Also, how are ticks out in the grasslands? I have seen way too many here in Iowa this year.
One thing I did in addition to the info above, is I bought a 120 qt cooler, bought some of that insulated wire shelving, trimmed off the legs and put rubber caps on them. Then I can put the meat into the cooler and the water stays off the meat. It makes putting a head into the cooler a little...
I decided to take my father in law out to that vicinity this fall. I did rifle season in WY last year, and it was an amazing hunt! I'm really hopeful to get him (early 70's) on a speed goat. Of course, I'd love to pop one too, but really want him to tag out. We're both planning on using...
Here is a list of the Units with first, second and third choice success. You will need to research research research, but I just did my first hunt in E WY and my hunting buddy and I both got our buck the first morning. Not saying it's guaranteed by any means, but lots of research, time on the...
Seems like there was a muley in every ditch! There were bucks and does all over the place. I wish I'd have picked up a mule deer license, but did not. We also saw a few whitetails, but being from Iowa, I wasn't too impressed with what we saw for them.
Congrats, beautiful buck! This was my first year going after the goats (in Wyoming) and I had a great, memorable trip! I didn't take a monster, but got a buck who will be on my wall by the end of the year.
Most memorable part of my first Wyoming pronghorn hunt, the coyotes!
I posted the story over in the antelope section, but wanted to add the predators here. My buddy and I filled our antelope tags in Unit 26 in Wyoming and had a few days left to knock out some dogs. We ended up with 5. The...
