    Who's from WI, where at?

I live near Marshfield. Lived in Eau Claire for a few years. I'd be interested in an occasional pack hike. Whats a TTH?

    Non-resident Wyoming Elk 5PP's

re-kindling an old thread here. I'm just doing a little research on 95, wondering if the author (Lonestar) ended up in 95? Any words of wisdom? I have 5 points, and will be hunting with an Wyo resident and likely wilderness area. Just trying to figure out if we want 95 or 67 or another unit...

Nomex brush pants - Q for firefighters

I'd agree. Skip the Nomex. I really like the Firehose pants from Duluth Trading company, or the Filson Double Tin mentioned above. The Firehose pants are durable, and have amazing pockets and belt loops.

    Outdoor Humorists...suggestions

"Saddles to Sushi"- not really hunting and fishing, but written by an old cowboy about the changes in Jackson Hole, WY. Funny book, covers a lot of urban/rural conflicts.

    Quick humane kills.....

Not to disagree with you- I wasn't there and you were, but for the sake of discussion: Is it possible that your hit was through the vena cavea- aka the large vein bringing return blood flow from the lower extremity back to the heart? Would be nearly the same size and in nearly the same area...

    Mittens

Men's Alti Mitts | Outdoor Research | Designed By Adventure | Outdoor Clothing & Gear I never would have spent this much, but my awesome wife got them for me for Christmas a year or 2 ago. Simply amazing. I wear them on cold weather motorcycle trips on my dual sport (no heated grips, no wind...

looking for a new or youth hunter

Got the scope in the mail today! Thanks again, it'll see many deer as the extended eyes of beginners! I also just returned from an annual youth deer camp Learn to Hunt. 21 kids spent 3 days, 2 nights of wildlife biology, hunters safety and hunting. Complete with bunkhouse and group...

looking for a new or youth hunter

I run a group called Kids and Mentors Outdoors, or KAMO in Wisconsin. We match background checked mentors with kids who want to participate in hunting, fishing, camping, ect. We own a few rifles for kids use, and have a few without scopes. If you'd like to donate the scope to us, I'd happily...

    Quick humane kills.....

Lukem, Happy to offer some insight. As a midwesterner on this site, I read a lot and usually dont have a lot to offer. But as a firefighter paramedic, flight medic and tactical medic, you are right in my wheelhouse when we start talking trauma!

    Quick humane kills.....

It's difficult to compare an olympic athletes performance in this case. Particularly a swimmer. Their bodies have been trained to utilize anaerobic metabolism for that brief burst of activity, whereas us normal folks (and critters) function on aerobic metabolism. The difference is utilizing...

    Quick humane kills.....

If we really want to get into the technicals, there is 2 kinds of pneumothorax. To break it down simply and gloss over some really technical stuff: A plain old pneumo isn't a real big deal, not always lethal and rarely quickly That happens when air leaks out of a rupture alveoli in the lungs...

    Missouri River breaks archery

Thanks everyone, it's all helpful. I plan to target deer, with the cow elk and goat tags "incidental". We will be off the road as much as possible. I'm used to mountain timber hunting where water can be had with ease, so from what I hear this will be our limiting factor to staying away from...

    Missouri River breaks archery

Who's hunted the Breaks since they went to a limited quota? I know that it used to be pretty crowded, but I haven't really heard from anyone who's been there recently. Myself and 2 buddies are headed out there in early Oct with one cow tag, 3 deer tags and 2 antelope tags. Mostly wondering if...

    Child Carriers

I second the Tough Traveler brand of child carriers. They will carry a much larger size kid than most of the others, and are pretty bare bones, making it ideal to strap onto my duplex frame. I love this system.

    Mountain boot with heel cup

If you are looking for heavy duty leather with a good heel cup, maybe look at the wild land fire boots. Whites are what I wear. People think I'm crazy though for wearing a heavy leather boot like that into the backcountry. But I'm ok with that.
