I think you will be hard pressed to find 2-3 acres of land in Eagle River or Chugiak that isn't part of a neighborhood. I don't know your budget or housing criteria but that pretty steep ask for that area. The commute sucks, I've done it on one off occasions (training in Anchorage or working a...
For a midlayer synthetic Stone Glacier Helio does the job well. Ran the zip-offs for moose hunting this year and then bought the Helio hoodie to run as my grid fleece this coming year. The Sitka Arrowhead MDWi is a fantastic piece that can be used as a midlayer or outside layer. I run mine under...
Kifaru LPP. I have mine in the quarterzip. I wore it with just a tshirt for Halloween the other night just above freezing to start with and by the time we were done it was upper 20s. Great piece of gear.
I know Klymit offers a sheet for their sleeping pads so you dont slip as much. I went with a bivy from Amazon. It took some searching to find one that wasn’t half a tent but I found the Aquaquest Pharaoh and it looks nice and simple. Unfortunately I got it for next year and it is way to hot to...
4mm gloves from work so I don’t know the link. And then I buy a 10 pack of those dipped nitrile gloves from Home Depot/Lowe’s or auto parts store. 4mm gloves go on, then the nitrile glove. Don’t have to worry about rips, a lot of protection from pokes and slices and you don’t lose dexterity.
Goldstreak via Alaska Airlines. Buddy shipped a 360# wall tent to Anchorage from Seattle for $1 a pound so we could have it for moose camp. I'm not sure if they have anything in Fairbanks but Shipping by Lulu is also very affordable.
If you are not in a big hurry I can chime back in April-ish with a durability check. Im going to use it to layer under my Sitka Jetstream for running around town till it’s too cold for it and then at work under a fleece. With work I wear a duty belt so the hem/bottom section will get a...
You can get the MDWi from Arrowhead, which is Sitka, that is an Ambient hoodie with 30D face fabric vs 20D, has a hood, pockets and full length zip vs pullover. Mine will be here this weekend. It addresses all of your concerns.
I think it depends on what you are doing with it. For cleaning moose I prefer my 5” clip point, 3/8” thick spine and A2 steel. It’s got a big belly to it for skinning and separating quarters, hard enough I dont have to sharpen it even when dealing with knuckles, lasts a whole moose and after 16...
I have a used a couple different handheld radios while hunting or going on a side by side ride. I would avoid the cheaper radios that use AAA or AA batteries, they will die in less than a day every time. We have some Cobra brand 32 mile range ones we use that can charge via micro usb or a...
As far as pants go, I just purchased a pair of Attack pants size 36. 36 straight fit jeans have a couple inches of room in the waist (requiring a belt) but fit the butt and thighs. Attacks in 36 can be worn without a belt (pretty sure, it’s habitual at this point) and are little bit more fitted...
I haven’t had any issues with my M5 jacket or pants yet. Comparing to my Arcteryx Beta LTs isnt quite fair but they dont last as long before wetting out nor are they as durable. However for something that costs 30-40% less they do a great job. I’ve worn them brush beating quite a bit and the...
That was the entrance wound at 60yards or so with a 212gr ELD-X from a .300 PRC. So far I have yet to recover an intact ELD-X on a moose from a PRC or a 6.5 Creedmoor. All of them had the core separate from the jacket. The separation appears to be happening on the opposite shoulder/ribs after...
I have a set of xtratuff ones with 2 years on them, the wife has the grundens version and my dad has been rocking the xtratuff ones for a bit. No issues so far, i use mine when it’s raining out, mowing the lawn, picking up dog crap etc. My dad uses his almost daily and whenever he the boat out...
I’ve used an X Curve for several years now. Shoulder straps and hip belt stay in place with no slipping or movement and it’s very comfortable. Multiple moose and caribou pack outs in addition to putting plates in it throughout the winter (treadmill incline) and summer (hikes). The pack works...
Have you tried skipping eyelets across the top of foot and then using the heel lock method? Alleviate pressure on the top of the foot and keep the heel in place. check around the 9:40 mark on the video.
The Kifaru Slick Bag meets that bill nicely for synthetic. Nemo makes a certain cut to their bags that makes it more roomy through the hips and shoulders. I have a Nemo Sonic 0 that I can side sleep with quite comfortably but my Marmot Lamina is constricting and a true mummy (both are down...
When I go hunting I used to take 20-25 gallons in the crappy emission compliant cans and then my one race can. Much cheaper than 5-6 race cans but they make a mess. Now with the 15gal tanks its much easier to fill the race can versus hauling the big tank over to the machine (we stash our fuel...
I use a race can with the dual handle and vent, it works great. The opening is large enough that I can dump an emission compliant can into it with spilling a drop or when hunting I use 15gal car wash soap containers. Shake siphon fuel into race can and then into my machine.
