hmmm, people follow jobs. Lots of jobs in Boise ID and surrounding area. Not only just Micron and the 15 tech companies based in Boise area that feed off Micron. Here's the growth, these companies represent over 200,000 internal company jobs and that's not counting all the support jobs...
love using Stealth Strips. Even on my binoc harness, Kifaru pack buckles, outside of kydex pistol holster, tripod upper legs...anything that needs to be "sound dampened".
8 apps....all "not selected"
my main hopes for this year;
Any Bull eastern WA- Yak units: 14 points
Quality Buck, : 11 points
Bull elk out of state: NM, UT, CO, WY, all not selected.
I'm not getting any younger and at age 62, feeling it.
(y)I like that gap at the bottom, using my 22Mag Gen-2 on the 26" frame. fit extra gear in that space.
Having a 14'r (used mostly as airline under seat), a Hunter Duplex 26 frame with Reckoning or 22Mag, combined with accessory pockets etc.
I've found my right combinations for hunt pack & trip...
I believe a face covering helps. Whether cloth material or face paint, reduce the sun glare and reflection off your face. A dark beard may help too, but mine would be too white now at my age.
in the field, my observations of other hunters around me: sun on their face, they shine and not just...
Tried mine a time or 2 on day hikes. 14'r is a long pack, without belt the lower part gives you a feeling like it moves side2side. Definitely better with a belt. Even with belt, best to keep load weight less than 40lbs.
now pretty much use exclusively a 26" Kifaru Frame, alternate between...
For 3 years, I used to archery hunt in NW Montana. Thick timbered, high ground areas NW, NE of Kalispell.
One chilly, dry fall day, wind in my face, I came around a turn in the hiking trail and GRIZZ @ 70 yards!
thank goodness a bluff charge that stopped 20 yards away, beast covered the 50+...
I have the SKB version of that case. Also use a pelican 1365 as checked luggage case. both are great.
TSA and the bag handlers, airport conveyor systems are very rough on gear.
out of dozens of flights in 3 years, 2017 my SKB suffered wheel-case damage. I called the company, they were...
in colder weather, Mid Oct>Dec, I don't worry about bugs so much.
late August>Oct 1, I use a Bear Paw Designs 1/2 inner tent/bath tub floor in my Kifaru Tut.
Inside the Tut, the 1/2 "bug nest" and a Thermocell can work wonders keeping clouds of skeeters at bay during earlier summer scouting trips.
if solo, just go!
as mentioned, be reasonable and hunt couple miles around vehicle/camp. Packing out an elk in Sept, early October is no easy task when solo, racing against time and temperature. Not the time to be packing solo 5-9 miles in/out.
I've met some good guys when out there in the...
2010
2010, 2nd to last day tag filler 3x4 muley buck pack out from bottom of canyon/creek bottom. 1200' elev gain to the top. Then 2.5 mile trail to camp. Twisp WA-Sawtooth Wilderness
A Badlands Ox frame, Eberlestock X2 pack modified & meat shelf to fit. Last load of buck rack, 60lbs boned meat...
if you are mostly day hunting, consider the Woodsman or 22 Mag pack.
I have a Reckoning, used on multi day/nights trip. Bought a 22Mag 2nd Gen for my daypack use. Both used on my 26" Kifaru frame. The Reckoning packed down ok for day pack use but just didn't like the bulky feel....so I have...
Note: tried selling the ParaTipi recently on RKslide, but only received low ballers offers and lookie-loos. Most don't understand the Quality of these Kifaru shelters. One inquiry sent a low price comparing it to the Mountain Smith LT shelter, a knock off copy.....not even close comparison.
So...
I've always referred to my Kifaru ParaTipi as my mini Sawtooth, Great in a high wind situation, provided you can peg it down solidly. Not sure how you can peg down securely in above timberline sheep country, depends on the country & ground conditions you're camping on.
that said, I really like...
over the last 17 years, I've tried several packs; Eberlestock (stolen), Badlands OX (sold), MR (sold), SG (friends pack borrowed 4 days)
Friends SG was my pick and then I saw a Kifaru in use….
>>>love the Kifaru system for about 5 years now, have 2019 22MAG gen2 for large daypack and Reckoning...
I have Black Diamond Trek poles. But telescoping shafts are oval, not round.
will these work with oval tubes?
I have these heavy duty BD Treks due to snow shoeing use but then double as hike poles during hunt seasons.
light and built strong as a tank.
I use Kni Trekker when camp near vehicle in my Tut. Works very nicely, very happy with it. Stacked up, good burn going with a 6" round in and dampened down, it will be cool by morning but usually have a coal or 2 to get fire going again.
unlike my Outdoors Lite backpack stove, the flat top is...
I don't short myself, so I use a 300 WIN MAG, handloads and Nosler 200gr Partitions.
hasn't let me down yet in over 30 years of the ol' magnum booom in the elk woods. My own Legion of Boom!
southern Cal coast/spring, Gilbert-AZ in winter, Western WA summer. And the deer/elk woods from MId September thru 2nd week January (desert).
a nice retirement plan and drivable to lots of hunts. Working good so far.
