    Early season cold fronts

Hey guys, this will be my first year chasing mule deer in early archery. My first day hunting is like 17 degrees colder than the day before. Does anyone see a change in mule deer movement with fronts like that in the early season? Not a high country hunt but we may move up if we aren't seeing...

    Iowa mid November

Good luck and be ready. Make sure your willing to be mobile, whether that means moving stands or setting up on the ground where the deer are. Don't fall in love with a spot, let the movement tell you where you should hunt. Hopefully the warm weather now in Iowa makes mid November that much better!

    Ground hunting pays off again

Well it happened again. It started 5 days ago when I took my 3 year old daughter on her first "hunt." We walked around behind the house and sat on a high spot and glassed for a short time. During that time, not only did I glass up a buck, but a nice buck that was coming out of the standing corn...

    Whitetail stalking decoys

I think you guys could be suprised, especially on a big rutted up buck with a hot doe around. I was sneaking on a nice buck last year and he spotted me crouched in a fence line. He postured and came to about 75 yards before getting warry. I didn't get a shot but I'm hoping a decoy like this...

    Whitetail stalking decoys

Thanks and yes ive thought of that. The issue i have is I tend to move around a lot, especially during the rut when i am often spotting deer and going after them. For that reason, I think a lightweight decoy would work better for me.

    Whitetail stalking decoys

I am looking at true decoy scenarios during the Iowa rut. One of my most productive spots is wide open ag land with waterways and small wood lots. I plan to use the decoy to bring mature bucks into range. I have had some success with setting up on the ground or cutting them off after spotting...

    Whitetail stalking decoys

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone had a lot of experience using a decoy when hunting whitetails from the ground? I have done plenty of research and it seems like heads up and ultimate predator decoys are the 2 biggest brands but im not really sold on attaching the decoy right to my bow. Any...

Anyone out west collecting points in Iowa?

Hey I totally agree with that. Thats just not what has been offered to me yet. I would definitely be interested in something along that nature from someone who does it regularly and has the experience, as I do not. I am just not looking to share my hunt here in exchange with tagging along with...

Anyone out west collecting points in Iowa?

Thanks guys for the responses to my post. As of right now I am primarily looking for someone with access to private land to hunt with out west if we were to do any sort of exchange.

    Ground Hunting Whitetails is underrated

Yes it's been over 10 years since I've lost a deer and I forgot how depressing it is. This is definitely the biggest buck I have shot and not recovered. Hoping I see him chasing a doe here in the next few weeks.

    Ground Hunting Whitetails is underrated

It was further back than a shoulder hit. Arrow sticking out both sides as he ran away which is odd for my set up. I never found the arrow either. I keep replaying it over and over and i still dont understand why that deer isnt dead.

    Ground Hunting Whitetails is underrated

Well guys I almost kept my streak alive last week. I had another big buck in bow range from the ground. I shot him a little high, but I thought it was still a fatal shot. I let him sit over night and followed blood for 300 yards the next day before it dried up. Came back later with a dog and had...

Anyone out west collecting points in Iowa?

Iowa has very limited public land and it is hunted hard during the rut. The good thing is there are tons of deer and still places on public where you can have a good hunt. As far as hunting on the ground, its actually what I do more often anymore. I have had my best luck as of lately in some...

Anyone out west collecting points in Iowa?

Hey guys I live in Northeast Iowa that has just started to venture out west every couple of years. I would love to help someone out here with some private access and possibly a cabin to stay at with some help on my next western hunt. I am pretty open to anything as far as game, I just want a...

    Ground Hunting Whitetails is underrated

Most of my set ups I bring a seat to start out on but I find myself making small adjustments depending on the deer movement. If i do that i am usually set up on my knees if i think there are deer close. I try to have some sort of and obstacle between me and where the deer are to help me stay...

    Non resident hunting in Iowa

Late season public land hunting in Iowa is a very tough hunt. The deer have been running for their lives for the past 3 weeks and they typically congregate near a food source with little pressure which almost always means private land. I have hunted Iowa my whole life and have never had success...
