    Velvet antler preservation

I’ve used Velvalok one time on a velvet mule deer. It worked great. Three years later, the velvet is still in perfect condition. I used over half of a 12 ounce spray bottle to treat one mule deer rack. It’s not a huge rack either, just a big fork buck.

    Reloading scale that doesn’t suck?

I forgot to add, my opinion of a scale that doesn’t suck: A quality balance beam scale. I’m running a Hornady/Pacific cast metal scale that I bought new about 18 years ago (which appears to be no longer in production). The thing is a beast and has been ultra reliable/repeatable for me.

    Reloading scale that doesn’t suck?

Trickling powder for every charge? No thanks. I played around with that when I started reloading 20 years ago. Now, I weigh charges thrown from my Redding Model 3BR powder measure until I find the micrometer setting for the weight of that powder I want. I double check the weight of a...

Day hunting out of the truck?

At my rifle season elk camp, my comfy wood stove heated wall tent is always just a few steps from my truck. I don’t bring horses or an ATV either.

    My 2023 muley

Great buck OP. I REALLY LIKE the fact that he makes no reference to state or unit number, and doesn’t respond to comments regarding location. Well done!

Chasing Big Muleys and Mental Endurance

The OP didn’t mention it, but I wonder how much he misses his wife… One of my hunting buddies has a really hard time with this. If we haven’t at least found the kind of critters we’re after by the end of day 3, he gets all squirrelly. I can see he starts losing optimism and starts peppering...

    3rd Row SUV Experiences

I’ve been through this as the family grew. We bought a new 2007 Honda Pilot and drove that for 7 years (~85,000 miles) without doing anything to it other than routine maintenance and tires. My wife wanted a newer car in 2014, so we bought a new 2014 Pilot. We drove that for 5 years, at...

    WTB Tikka Superlite OEM Stock

That is correct. The T3x Superlite sold at Sportsman’s Warehouse has the exact same black synthetic stock as any standard T3x Lite or T3x Lite Stainless rifle.

Seek Outside Large Stove sparks burning tent!

Another cause of smoke in the tent is a clogged spark arrestor. Green wood will clog up a spark arrestor faster than dry wood. I’m not familiar with the built in spark arrestor you have, but I’d clean it daily if burning green wood.

    First time archery elk montana

Sounds like a hell of a self guided first elk hunt, OTC to boot. Well done!

300prc for whitetail? …. I know but hear me out

I’ve killed quite a few deer with rifles chambered in 338 Winchester Magnum. I’ve also killed quite a few elk with a 7mm-08. And vice versa as well. God Bless America.

Sold Kifaru 20 degree Long Wide Slick Bag

I have a 20 degree Long/Wide Kifaru Slick bag for sale. I bought it new 2 years ago, and used it on one 2 night trip. It’s been stored loosely in a large storage bag since then. The bag is in excellent condition. This is only the Slick bag, no storage sack or compression sack. $325 shipped to...

Struggling to see the point of 6.5's

18 pages, so far! It’s funny how some subjects get people revved up. I only read the first 4 pages and jumped to the end. I have several 7-08s and, like the OP, love them. I bought a 6.5x55 Tikka back in 2005 and have killed truckloads of critters with that rifle (around 38 antelope and 15...

Small Hunting / House / Mountain Dog

English Cockers can be serious upland dogs, and they fit right on your lap no problem. Regarding your pet chicken- if you end up with a real bird dog, that pet chicken is a goner.
