Called in a bear to my elk spot 2nd day in a row, different bigger bear than the one the day before. This one waddled up to 12 yards and just stared at me with his right paw casually laid across the log he was sitting behind and licked his chops constantly. I stood up and spoke to him, told...
I used one for many years. I would hang it in a tree to give me the angle I wanted if a critter showed up and saw it.
It definitely bought a few seconds when elk came in and saw it, particularly when I was calling for a buddy.
Carry my Glock 20 10MM most of the time in the woods......particularly when I am solo. Plus bear spray. Rather have it and not need it than not have it and need it.
I have yet to catch a rubbed elk this year. Checked cams Sunday. Wallows are unused as well so far. In southern WY. My buddy and his wife had 34F on their truck in the morning 8/8 at just under 10K in southern wy
I've yet to see them rubbing this year so likely old rubs. All of it looks pretty old. Fresh rubbed trees won't be dead yet....old rubs are usually dead as the bark is how the tree transfers water and nutrients...once the bull rubs it off they die just like if a mouse chews the bark off a...
Happened to me last year.....thought I had a hot bull coming and I was heading for him, raking, bugling, turned out to be another hunter sitting above a water hole. It was exciting for a minute then it wasn't at all.
A buddy this year had a bull working for him within 200 yards only to have...
I'd use their shitter and if I kill and elk the meat hanging racks for sure. Not sure i'd camp right there though......usually that nice a set up is local with horses coming sooner or later.
Did over 8 the first morning.....plus the evening hunt. 2nd day did less than 4.....took it easy.....like WAY easy. And I am old and fat and not in shape for this painful chit. 100 mile season is average.
Check out the Sand Creek and Little Sand Creek areas.......burned several years ago so not sure how much standing dead timber is still in there but should be some good feed. I know a few springs/wallows were up on those finger ridges above the creek canyons back in the day. Elk would come up...
Check with the local grocery stores, we have had luck in the past with them letting us put a cooler full of meat in their freezer to hard freeze the meat for the trip home. With current health regs that may not be a thing anymore....I dunno.
Damn Brad....hell of a moose ya got there.......
I need one of those nice sharpeners. I just free hand it and I know I am not consistent with the angle.
Hunted opening day through the following Friday 9/6. Saw a 5x5 first evening at 50 yards thought he would come to me but he went up the cliff instead of down to me. No Shot. Not much action, but lots of fresh sign. Dry. Hot. A few showers but hardly enough to keep the dust down for 15...
Glass.....don't approach the animals or traipse around in dark timber. If you run into someone hunting a drainage, move on and let them hunt. Simple courtesy.......treat others how you would like to be treated.
First legal but usually see more bulls than cows by far. Not sure what difference it makes since I don't have headroom for a bull mount in my humble house.
