Have a family vacation in mid June. My in-laws rented a house in Evergreen. My wife and young kids are going to come out early and camp for a couple days before the rest of the family shows up. Would like to stay within 90 minutes of Evergreen.
I’ve checked out all the USFS sites in the area…a...
If you’re open to floorless, hard to beat the weight and size of the Warbonnet Ground Tarp.

Is there water all over where you hunt? I drink at least 2.5 liters per day. Even if you only drink 1.5-2, that’s filtering like four times a day. I can’t remember a single day elk hunting 4-5 units in two states where I found more than two decent water sources where I was hunting.

The issue is less with ground clearance. It’s with the width of some of these roads. I’ll destroy the body getting in.
And then some of them will have 2-3’ deep ruts and are too narrow to get around. I’d need 40” tires to make it through that or just zip around in an ATV/UTV.
My FIL said I could borrow his 2 seater Rzr…the sportier style kind. It has very little storage, but I think we can manage two packs in the back or I can work up a temporary mount/hanging system. I don’t really like borrowing that kind of thing just in case something happens, but he’s very easy...
I’ve been contemplating a used four wheeler to navigate those crappy forest service roads more efficiently than I can in a full size truck. It would be likely for myself and one other hunter to ride. I know a UTV would be better but trying to keep cost low.
Have never owned one before and...
I don’t think it’s as simple as tossing a number out there. Also have to consider what kind of trails are nearby. If there are motorized trails, bet your butt people will be zipping up and if there are horse/hiking trails, they’ll be people and stock using it.
1000’ over a couple miles isn’t a...
I’ll add that I’ve already picked out a couple back up spots along the way in case we run into traffic.
Also, I lived right in the smack of the path of totality for the last one and was in an area that is already very crowded during the day (big university and hospital campus), and I really...
I tried two hooks on the belt: one that hung the bow by the string and one that hung it by the handle. Handle was better, but in the end, I tried the Montana bow sling and found it much better.
The hip ones torque the belts too much and cause discomfort. With the bow sling, I have no...
I ended up getting some Brooks Glycerine 21’s for daily wear because my ASICS didn’t have removable soles and I couldn’t add pads or new soles.
These have helped a lot. Pain is almost gone. I got some metatarsal pads to add to my hiking boots to try before I mess with soles on those. But also...
He got 25 years in prison and the other guy died. All for a gravel bar that may or may not have been within his property line, but even if it was, the public has the right to use on rivers like the Meramec. Dumb.
I’ll add to my original post that since making it, I carried 118# of deer and gear out with the K4 and had absolutely no discomfort from the pack at all.
I’m not sure the KUIU could have handled that weight, though I haven’t tried.
