Powderhorn Primitive outfitters CO GMU 66 review

I just completed a 1st rifle hunt with Powderhorn Primitive Outfitters and wanted to leave a little review as I had trouble finding info on them before my hunt. This is my second guided hunt for Elk in Colorado, and first with Powderhorn Primitive. I would recommend them if you are looking for...

    Hammer Hunter on Game Performance

200 yards with 166 hammer hunter out of 300WSM. Hard quarter too, with placement in front shoulder. Bullets pushed right through front shoulder and lodged in skin on opposite side. Bull dropped on first shot and got back up to its knees, second shot put him out cold. Probably did not need second...

    Puffy Pants Versus

Great thread. I just bought the SKRE pants for $202. Hard to pass them up at that price. My only issue is that I will be wearing Kuiu gloves, Sitka coat, Skre Pants and First Lite base layers........I hope the elk don't care.

Significant drop in FPS with suppressor?

Yes the point of impact was 1 inch lower compared to no can. Barrel length was 23 inches on both guns. I am not concerned about the slower speed than the box, but I assumed my custom hammer loads with a lighter bullet would out run the heavier round. I will shoot across the crono with out the...

Significant drop in FPS with suppressor?

Today at the range I worked on my set up for this elk season. I am shooting a Browning Hells Canyon in 300WSM with a banish 46 suppressor in the 7.8 inch configuration. My load is 166 Hammer Hunters with 66 grains of reloader 19. My groups were great (well below 1 MOA). My avg FPS was 2814…..I...

    Browning x bolt (mag issue)

Just a heads up on my 300 WSM hells canyon I could not get high BC bullets to feed. I was trying the Berger VLD hunters and the bullets would not feed. I had to polish up the feed ramps to get good reliable cycling. I did some range work today and I was shooting .5 MOA groups with 166 grain...

Hung up on bino power: 8 vs 10

This is coming from a guy who has never spent money on alpha glass, but the image stabilized binos are amazing. I have the early pair of Sig Zulu bions and the stabilization feels like and extra 2-4x of power. They just upgraded their glass into an HD version, but I have not tried them. Sig...

Optics for guided elk rifle hunt?

As long as point creep does not explode this year, I should draw a 1st rifle tag for unit 66 in Colorado. I will be going guided and was curious on recommendations on what optics to pack with me? I have archery hunted in the past and only took binos which worked perfectly fine. With a rifle...

Conrad’s High Country Outfitters- Colorado Archery Elk

I wanted to leave a quick review from my hunt this fall. I used Conrad’s High Country Outfitters for a archery Elk hunt. I hunted with Conrad’s this year after a recommendation from a friend. I was a little concerned by reviews I had read on other sites, but I experienced a great hunt and a...

    Fire Wood SW Montana?

Be sure to check the burning regulations. Every time I have been to SW Montana in September there has been a “no open fire” rule in place. The wind at night is very strong and I completely understand how a small camp fire can turn into a forest fire
