The outcome of that fertilizer spill may have been different if 99% of the fish killed weren't rough fish. I would imagine the resulting algae growth will be more impactful than the loss of the fish.
I have their chamber sealer, 10-tray dehydrator, and souis vide. All work well with no issues, and I'll likely buy more if any other equipment I have craps out. Tough to beat their sales when they have them.
If elk are there, I wouldn't hesitate to hunt them. I killed one of my best bulls within a half mile of a cluster of multi-million dollar homes. Everyone else can keep hammering into the backcountry. I have no shame in filling tags in easy locations. Lol
Good stuff. I've seen a handful of people here mess up by drawing a cow tag with points in the second draw, and then they're draw ineligible for 9 years.
It's not the location, it's the timing. I lived 4 years in the Springs without having to pay over the BAH rate. I'm leaving next month for Malmstrom and I can't even find a rental there that I wouldn't be paying $1,000+ over BAH.
I switched to a thumb release (Nock2It) around 2018. I shot well with it, but no noticeable positive difference when compared to a wrist strap. Out of nowhere I started struggling with it before the 2022 archery season. Switched back to a wrist release, shooting was great again, and I haven't...
I was stationed in Colorado Springs from 2016-2020. The traffic kills the thought of ever trying to get back there for me. The academy wouldn't be bad though. I would recommend living in Monument. Short commute to the academy, and the housing is actually spaced out in those neighborhoods. My...
I believe the discounts through Expert Voice are open to many other occupations as well. It's a great site though. A LOT of my gear has been ordered through them over the last 6 years or so.
Have you thought about making your own deck for the bed of your truck? I considered a Decked system last year, but the reviews are far from stellar for the prices they charge. I also had the same concerns with my larger cooler fitting. I built a deck with just enough clearance to use 2 ice sleds...
Adding weight to the back of your arrow will reduce your FOC. I personally think 15% FOC is unnecessary though. Figure out how heavy of an arrow you can shoot without it slowing down too much and go from there if you want to add weight. A 27.5" draw is going to be a limiting factor. Do you know...
Use Archer's Advantage or a similar application to play around with different arrows and configurations. You may find out that the numbers you're wanting aren't quite possible. I haven't built any arrows as short as you will need, but 15% FOC under 475 gr seems like a tough task, especially with...
I wouldn't waste my time and money coming to SD to hunt public land. Private ground could be worth it if you had access or you were willing to pay for access though.
I'm red-green color blind enough to get DQ'ed from most military occupational specialties. I haven't noticed any significant disadvantage when it comes to glassing. I've actually thought the opposite that it may help for locating animals, but that's probably not accurate either. I think I do...
