    Small Spotter opinions.

I have an Opticron MM3 12-36x50 that has a much better image for my eyes that the Razor HD 11-33x50 i had a few years ago. Plus cheaper. It punches way above its price. It's super light and I use it on my truck window.

    Any 10x Bino Folks Around?

I have 3 10x binos (NL Pure 10x42, Habicht 10x40 and Zeiss SF 10x32). They each have their own strengths and I will pick one of the three depending on what I am doing/where I am going. I still prefer an 8x if I am hiking in AND have the 15xs or a spotter since it is easier for me to hand hold 8x...

Meopta meostar 7x42 review and price?

I had a set of Meostar 7x42 for a number of years, they had great glass and a very comfortable image. They were a great forest glass, and the view depth was much better than most 8x42 models because you didn't need to adjust the focus very often. I sold them when I moved to a Zeiss SF 8x42. The...

is the upgrade from 42mm to 50mm for lowlight worth it?

Although I think you will see a slight improvement in jumping from 42mm to 50mm if you are comparing the same exact model, I also think each model with its specific coatings is going to have just as much effect on the difference as the extra 8mm in the objective lens. I recently compared the...

    Nortent Gamme 6 initial observations

Per the specs, the SO 8 tipi has a 16-foot diameter while the Gamme 6 has a 12-foot diameter. Also, the tipi is 8'6 tall whereas the Gamme is 6' tall. That said, I felt they had comparable usable space. Not having a middle pole helps the Gamme feel bigger. Also, the near vertical walls also make...

Kowa TSN 88 spotter vs Meopta S2 82, which would you buy and why. Thanks for the input.

I have the angled Kowa 88A and the straight S2. They are both incredible scopes and I think you would notice more difference and preference in the feel of a barrel focus vs a course/fine dual focus than there is in the difference between the Kowa vs Meopta glass. I would seriously pick which...

    Nortent Gamme 6 initial observations

I have spent 5 nights in this tent during the last year here in Kyrgyzstan. It has held up great and is a solid mountain shelter for a base camp. 2 of those nights were blowing snow and high wind bursts and the tent was rock solid. 1 night was hard rain and the other 2 nights were cool temps but...

    Binos for Deep South

I think a good 8x42 is a good configuration for what you are looking for. That said, i would pick a good 7x42 in good glass if you can find it for the depth of field that most 7x42 will have over a similar 8x42. I had a 7x42 Meostar that I sold when I got a Zeiss SF 8x42. The Zeiss SF is a...

    Meopta B1 8x56 Question

I had a pair of Meostar 8x56 for a few years. they were very good, especially in very low light but my Meostar 7x42 and Blaser 8x42 were almost as good in low light and deep forest cover. The 8x56 maybe gave 5 more minutes at dusk than either of the others but not much more.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Kyrgyzstan is very safe to visit from a crime/terrorism standpoint. I have spent most of my overseas assignments in Latin America, Africa, and Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan is by far the safest place I have been assigned. The people in general are very friendly and helpful, especially in the rural...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Yes, I asked few local contacts about it but got different responses. Several told me that it would be normal for a local cowboy or shepherd to go to an isolated vehicle if they thought people were stranded. But they would do it on horseback and call out. Approaching on foot, in the darkness...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I had a strange experience a few months ago. I am currently posted in Kyrgyzstan and in May-June I took a few weeks off to just explore the backcountry and get into some of those far away mountain ranges to the south and east of Bishkek and the Lake Isu Kul region. We loaded up our 4Runner with...

    15s vs BTX

I have the BTX 95 and 15x Meostars. I prefer the Meostars for anything under a mile (due to FOV) or when I am backpacking deep into the mountains. I never bring both, I usually have a Zeiss SF 8x42 on my chest and bring the 15x Meostars to use with a tripod. For big canyon country where i am not...

    Burris xtr scope

I had an XTR II 5-25 on a comp rifle, I ended up switching it for an XTR II 4-20. The 4-20 is much easier to look thru and does not have the scope shadow issues I had with the 5-25. The glass is decent but the scope has excellent tracking. the XTR II is a solid but affordable long-range comp...

    Leather lined boots list

The ones I have worn: Hanwag Yukon - built like Lowa Tibet, more comfortable to me than the Tibet, narrow fit Hanwag Nazcat - like a shorter version of the Yukon Lowa Trekker - very comfortable, heavy Meindl Desert Fox - great for hot dry environments

I am running the Sirui VH-10 head with my BTX 95 setup and am very happy with it.

    Swaro BTX fragility?

I recently broke down and bought the Swaro BTX eyepiece and 95 mm lens from S&S Archery. The guys at S&S Archery were great to deal with. I am very impressed with the optic, even though I have not pushed its capabilities due to lack of open country where I currently live. But I am moving next...
