    Yes, pens you write with, such as Mont Blanc, Pelikan, Parker etc. Lots of guys collect vintage pens, I tend to stay with new, modern ones. I know a guy who probably has over 500.

    270 do it all load for western hunting

    I don't hand load so I use Federal Premium 130 gr Sierra boat tails. Have had great success with that load.

    What type of backcountry? Some backcountry has big bears, some has small bears, some none at all. Caliber choice may depend on what you may encounter. Keep in mind that 2 legged predators may be the most dangerous.

    I do regret not buying one of Ruger's M77 rifles back in the day, I think I would have chosen their version of the "Mountain Rifle" in .30-06 or .270.
