I am in the same situation as you. I hunt in PA and our shots here on the farm we hunt are a max of 300 yards, but most as within 200.
My son and I both have quite a few rifles including Tikka’s and some Christensen Mesa’s and most of them wear 3-9 FF 2’s and they have served us well over the...
I have a 6.5 creed veil and with 135gr Bergers I get 2960 fps with a case full of RL26. Also have a 270 win roughtech that with factory 145 grn eldx ammo gets around 2800fps, but with RL26 I am 200-250fps faster than that.
If you add up the cost of all the NIB Burris FF2’s I have stashed away it’s well over $1k. The FF2’s have served me well over the years and work great for my style of hunting and I grabbed a bunch when Amazon marked them down last year to around $100 each.
I do have one scope over $1k and...
I have a 270 win Roughtech that shoots awesome with Eldx ammo, but I haven’t had a chance to chrono it yet. Just curious, but what kind of accuracy are you getting with the rest of the ammo you listed?
My 14 year old son wants to try out a 350 Legend and thinks he wants a Winchester XPR. I have no experience with the XPR rifles, so wanted to see what peoples thoughts are that have them?
Have not tried this with any of my Tikka SL’s and with only that little bit of weight savings I don’t see the point either. I’d rather have the extra ounce instead of a hollow sounding stock.
I have a semi custom built on a 700 action with a pacnor barrel. I like the rifle and with RL26 it is pretty much like a 280ai as it pushes 140gr bullets around 3200-3250 very accurately. Sadly though I rarely use the rifle and I guess I am just more of a tikka guy.
What are you planning on using this rifle/scope combo for and what is the furthest shot you are comfortable with?
I also have a T3X superlite in a 308. While I really like this rifle, a 4-32 scope would be serious overkill for my purposes since the max range I’ll ever shoot it will be roughly...
I’m also in PA and have been wearing my Crispi Wild Rock’s now for a few years and love them. They are the most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn and mine are only 400g and my feet only seldomly get a little cold after long sits. I know you said $400 as a budget, but for an extra $70 your feet...
Like everyone has pretty much already stated, if you’re planning on moving a lot stick with uninsulated, but if sitting a lot insulated has it’s benefits.
I stand hunt a majority of the time and insulated is a must for me just due to all day sits in 20-40 degree temps. Even with all day sits my...
